5.22 : The Gift

The spirit guide told Buffy that love would lead her to her gift and that her gift was death. (OB)

Spike

Who tells Spike to go up and protect Dawn? Buffy is busy, and robot has been dismembered. So who speaks to Spike? Any ideas anyone?

Cool

This has to be one of the saddest episodes I have seen. I have to admit I was crying like a baby at the end.

Wasn't it Willow who told Spike to go and protect Dawn?

WIllow used magic to telepathically tell Spike to go up to Dawn while she and Tara clear a path thru the minions...

was anyone else as impressed as I was with the Buffy(s) vs Glory fight scenes. Its not the first time we've seen female on female fighting in the show (Faith and Buffy for instance) but still interesting t owatch all the same. Buffy with the Troll's Hammer bashing Glory whilst swinging round on the tower was good fun, and seeing everything she threw at Glory being brushed off and her coming back for more...

I must admit the fight scenes were good. What made me laugh now thinking about it was when Buffy picked up the troll hammer like it was made of feathers yet when Xander tried he couldn't pick it up. Hahahaha!!!!!

yeah that was a good moment, and when Spike tried to warn Buffy that it was too heavy, and then watched her pick it up like a feather!!

Well I got to see this one for the first time last night. Eyes started leaking and didn't stop for bit. I think what got to me the most was Spike crying at the end. I mean everyone else, sure you expected it. Especially after he tells Buffy that he knows she doesn't love him, but she does treat like a man.

Giles doesn't think that he's a hero in his own right? Or just that a hero wouldn't do what he did to Ben in the end?

Cheers,

[MythingLink: Giles doesn't think that he's a hero in his own right? Or just that a hero wouldn't do what he did to Ben in the end?]

Personally, I think it's the second. Giles was using the classic, idealized definition of the word. We all know Buffy as a story of young woman trying to deal with a difficult destiny. Giles was saying that underneath it all, Buffy has the spirit of true hero.

At what point Giles decided that Buffy was a true hero, or had the potential to be one, instead of a difficult, headstrong teenager/young-adult isn't clear, but it's probably why he's stood by her when other Watchers only criticized her and him.

I think that Giles sees himself as more of mercenary for good. As he says earlier, he does the dirty work sometimes necessary to stop evil, but Buffy would rather risk defeat than use Giles' methods.

[MythingLink: Eyes started leaking and didn't stop for bit.]

I can neither confirm or deny that it had the same effect on me...sniff, sniff.

BTW, after the end of last season a lively discussion of Buffy's epitaph ensued. You might find it interesting.

Okay here's another question. Would Giles think this only because Ben was obviously unable to defend himself? Or would he still think this if he had to kill a Ben who could defend himself just to get to Glory?

I'll go check out that thread.

Cheers,

I have a question ... well two actually.

1. Were the scrolls Giles talks about at the beginning that outline what is going to happen in the box that Spike and Xander took from Doc?

2. How come no one ever noticed that huge tower being built? Or was Glory supposed to have made enough people nuts that they could get it built in one evening?

Cheers,
