Re: Favourite moments in the films?

I said in another thread, though mordbid in theme, I can never tear my eyes away from Boromir's death ... gaaah!

Plus in the third film when Sam is carrying Frodo up the mountain of fire.

Re: Favourite moments in the films?

I love Merry and Pippin so all their scenes were my favourites! But especially their introduction scene where they set off the firework. Prefer the way these characters were introduced in the films than the way they were in the books. Book Merry and Pippin and film Merry and Pippin are quite different though I think.

I love Merry and Pippin as well, they were one of my favorite things about the movies, though they got less funny as the movies went on, which was a little disappointing. And they are different from the books, but in a good way.

My favorite scene is at the end of ROTK when everyone bows to the hobbits, it almost made me shed a tear!

Also loved seeing the RingWraiths in ROTK - flying on those creatures was a very impressive visual effect - not least scooping up the riders and scatternig them frmo the air. Truly great - I'll definitely buy the ROTK extended edition just to see moer of them.
I too loved the films, but would have liked the filmakers do "The Hobbit" first.I don't know if there are any plans for the film, one can only hope!!!

Re: Favourite moments in the films?

Gandalf and Frodo riding in the cart through the Shire. It's all green and peaceful and idyllic and makes what comes after so much worse.

The Council of Elrond and the argument and the joy you could almost feel coming from the ring as everyone yelled at each other.

Gandalf's fight with the Balrog of Moria. "You cannot pass".

Saruman's monologue "together ... we will rule This Middle Earth"

Treebeard's conversation with the hobbits "a wizard should know better". Treebeard discovering the destruction of the forests and rallying the ents and their destruction of the dam. The ent putting the fire in it's branches out was priceless.

Theoden burying his son and his lines about the sun going down in the west before the battle.

Gandalf and the Rohirrim pouring down the hill at dawn at the end of the Battle of Helm's Deep.

Gandalf and Pippin riding up and into the city of Minas Tirith.

Elrond bringing the sword to Aragorn and Aragorn walking the Paths of the Dead.

The lighting of the beacons of Gondor (my alltime favourite scene)

The scene is each movie where the name of the movie is stated:
Council of Elrond ... "nine companions ... Fellowship of the Ring"
Saruman's monologue ... "union of the Two Towers"
Gandalf to Denethor ..."to deny the Return of the King"

Re: Favourite moments in the films?

The March of the Ents...never fails to bring out goosebumps!

And another goosebumpy moment: Gandalf and Pippin riding out to help the men of Gondor, who are being chased by the Nazgul. I actually think that's my favourite part of the the whole three films, I love the nazgul.

The whole of the battle of Pelennor fields...epecially when the men of Rohan turn up.

The army of the dead...jus in general! I love when they reach the battle fields and swarn everywhere like glowing ants!

The first beats of the drum in the mines...ooh the tension.

The clash between the Rohan and the wargs...just how the music suddenly stops as they do and then it's only the sounds of battle.

Just a tiny moment...Theoden's look of resignation as the Witch King flies towards him.

Eowyn lopping off the Fell Beast's head...priceless!

Saurman falling onto the bit spike (a contrived part, not of the books, but brilliant all the same)

Pippin's song...aw.

Shelob hovering over Frodo...oh, the suspense as you wait for her to strike!

Yeah, I know, they're mostly from the ROTK...but hell, I LOVE that film!

Re: Favourite moments in the films?

I quite liked sam's view of frodo's sword when he was about skewer him.

And the interesting way you can't quite tell who is speaking when gandalf the grey returns as gandalf the tartan. (it really sounds like christopher lee when he first shows up)

Oh, and the "Looks like meat's back on the menu boys!" awesome line.

Re: Favourite moments in the films?

My favourite moment has to be when the Balrog and Gandalf face off on the bridge of khazad dum. It's a very intense and spectacular scene. I also like the humanity reaction once they were outside Moria.

Awesom!

Re: Favourite moments in the films?

I'm with Nepenthe. My general disappointment with the films is well documented, both here and in my local constabulary, but I thought the Balrog was magnificent, fantastic, absolutely brilliant. I was quite pleased with Moria in general, though I've never been able to understand the orcs' ability to crawl on the pillars and ceiling.

Edit: Also Galadriel declaring "All will love me and despair!" Boy, I know that feelling.

Re: Favourite moments in the films?

There was the part in Fellowship when Legolas stabs an Orc in the throat with an arrow and then shoots that same arrow a different Orc. That was pretty cool.

In the Two Towers, Aragorn shows up at Helms Deep after falling off the cliff and everyone left him for dead, and he melodramtically bursts into the room to warn Theodin about the approaching Orcs. *swoons*

Oh yeah, forgot that bit! Love Billy Boyd.
Another bit I like is in the extended version of TT when Merry and Pippin drink the Ent draught.

Them weren't orcs, they were goblins.

Re: Favourite moments in the films?

  • The Council of Elrond and the revelation by Legolas of Strider's true lineage, "The Heir of Gondor" and the utter amazement in Frodo's eyes that this mere "Ranger" is in fact the King of Gondor-in-waiting
  • The magnificent Realm of the Dwarrowdelf in the Mines Of Moria.
  • The battle on the Bridge of Khazad-dum with Balrog.
  • The moth that flew into the hands of Gandalf whilst imprisoned on top of the tower of Orthanc. Gandalf whispered to the moth and then let it continue its journey, which subsequently made good Gandalf's escape thanks to the great eagle, Gwahir
  • Boromir, defending Merry & Pippin at the battle of Amon Hen against the marauding uruk-hai, and his final speech to Aragorn, "his brother, captain and King"
  • The arrival of Gandalf and the Rohirrim from atop a hill at sunrise during the battle of Helm's Deep, and the subsequent charge against the scattered orcs.
  • The belittling of everything Faramir tried to do in order to please his father, Denathor the steward of Gondor
  • The lighting of the beacons throughout the mountain peaks of Gondor.
  • The Battle of Pelennor Fields, and the defiance of Eowyn defending Theodun against the Witch King.
  • Aragorn, King Of Gondor, telling the Hobbits that "you bow to no one!"

There are probably many other scenes that I have forgotten to mention but the ones above remain in my mind most (and interestingly scarcely reference Frodo and/or Sam at all)
