Re: Favourite moments in the films? My favorite part of the Lord of Rings trilogy is when they are in Mines of Moria and Pippin knocks over the skeleton down the Well and the Cave Troll comes in and they battle with it (in the first movie)

Re: Favourite moments in the films? Mine was when 'At the sign of the prancing pony' was recited by ... oh no that wasn't in the movie. No it was when the hobbits were save by Tom B ... oh that wasn't in the movies either. Oh well, my favorite part of the LOTR movies was after they were finished and I wasn't watching them any more.

Re: Favourite moments in the films? My favourite bit is one that you can't really totally get if you have read the books first (as I had plenty of times, of course) as it is not too much of a surprise. But watching it with my wife - I realised how well it was done. Legolas: "The White Wizard approaches!" Aragorn: "Do not let him speak, he will put a spell on us...we must be quick." They launch a lightning quick attack, but Gimli's axe and Legolas' arrow are deflected as easily as flies, Aragorn has to drop his red-hot sword. (At this point my wife is going 'Oh, s**t, oh *s**t') Saruman's voice:"You are tracking the footsteps of two young Hobbits." Aragorn:"Where are they?" Saruman's voice:"They passed this way, the day before yesterday. They met someone they did not expect. Does that comfort you?" The 'Does that comfort you?" sounds so cruel and gloating, my wife had the fears. When she realised it was Gandalf she couldn't believe it (she had no idea!). Mind you, this is the woman who when I met her in 1997 had no idea that Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's dad! Either way, I love that scene.

Re: Favourite moments in the films? One of my favourite moments is in ROTK. The battle has taken place and the remaining members of the fellowship are checking for those in battle. Pippin finds Merry on the battlefield, wounded and promises to take care of him. It's just such a touching scene and I love it to bits. Also I wouldn't call it a favourite moment but it is definately one that touches me deeply. Eomer finds Eowyn on the battlefield, unconcious, and cradles her in his arms. He lets out a heart wrenching scream that is just so full of pain that you can't help but feel it aswell. Not only is it an amazing scene but it is a mark of how good an actor Karl Urban is but also how good Tolkein was as creating the characters and Jackson at bringing them to life on screen as you really do feel the raw pain of Eomer at the thought of having lost everyone he cared about.

Re: Favourite moments in the films? I have a long and frequently-vented list of complaints about those movies, BUT… credit where credit is due: the Balrog is brilliant, excellent, perfect. Actually, overall, the visual realization of the characters was the thing I liked best about the films, especially the Ents. Very well done, given how difficult it is to visualize them.

Re: Favourite moments in the films? Hemi-nomi, the song Pippin sings when Faramir is riding to battle is also my favourite. I'm not a cry-baby, but this song makes the tears well up in my eyes every time... Other favourite scenes I think of right now: - Bilbo's speech at his party - Nazgul ride out of Mordor (just love the image) - Gollum's conversation with himself (loved by many!) - maybe not a scene, but I love the scenery shots of Rohan in TTT - the moment just before the battle of Helm's Deep (I always feel I'm holding my breath 'till the battle begins...) - The dialogue between Wormtongue and Éowyn... gives me shivers, I think I identify a bit too much with Éowyn. - The moment Pippin realises he may never see Merry again when he's taken away from Edoras to Gondor by Gandalf. And the way Merry rushes to a watch-tower to see Pippin leave. - The moment all Rohan soldiers appear at the horizon, the speech from Théoden and: "Death...!" - When Éomer finds Éowyn on the battlefield and he thinks she's dead.... - ROTK-EE: the houses of healing... (because I identify with Éowyn too much... )- The moment Gandalf realises the ring is destroyed. My favourite part in the book too. Somehow, it's for me the biggest climax of the story (not the ring actually being destroyed, but Gandalf finding out Frodo completed his quest).
