But, then again, as many others have said (about themselves) I can be a real softie at the flicks these days: for Armageddon I could fill a moat during two or three points; standing on the desks in Dead Poets, and, blushingly I could go on...

| Re: Did you cry? (be honest) Didn't cry but I went 'awwww' really loudly when poor Pippin was crying after they thought they'd lost Gandalf and Merry was comforting him. Someone else mentioned Brother Bear, yeah that nearly made me cry, had to pinch myself! 'You will not cry at Brother Bear!' Fluke gets me every time. It's when the monkey's carrying the puppy, and I have absolutely no idea why that makes me cry! |

| Re: Did you cry? (be honest) Ha! I was strong and only cried at the end -- because it was over! And I wanted more. Not to mention that tragic end music. Makes me sad just thinking about it. |

I hate to admit it but I'm a cryer generally. I've been known to cry at sad episodes of Eastenders (that's a soap, for those of you outside the UK who haven't had the pleasure)

| Re: Did you cry? (be honest) Okay, I'll back off. Sorry to cause any tension, I just didn't understand at first... I guess it makes sense now, you just need to understand that there will never be an exact replica of the book translated into film, and Peter Jackson did a good job for what he had. He loves the books, and created a loving translation for the movies to get a generation interested in the books. Just as you feel the need to vent your feelings of anger/disappointment/frustration, I feel the need to show how much I liked the movies. I respect your opinion, I just didn't completely understand it until you said "How would you feel if you saw the greatest book you have ever read being decimated on the big screen?" That put it into perspective for me, and I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings Paige. I'm just one to share my opinion. ![]() |

| Re: Did you cry? (be honest) I did get teary-eyed in several spots for LotR, but the only place I wept openly was Boromir's death scene in FotR. So, you didn't like the movies, huh? That's your privilege I suppose, but I rather pity those who can't understand that books and movies are different media that work by different rules. Especially an author as verbose as Tolkien, it's impossible to reproduce his world exactly. I and many others who love both the book and the movies think that PJ was true to the spirit of the book, if not the letter. |

| Re: Did you cry? (be honest) The only parts of the film that made me cry was the music - by the end of the series I was almost screaming - it drove me mad - turned me right of the film with "oh, no, here it comes again"! |
