Re: Did you cry? (be honest)

The only two you will openly make me cry to are "Silent Running" and "Tarka the Otter". I simply cannot watch the otter film.

But Silent Running is a classic - absolute classic - of sf. Everytime I miss a repeat of it on TV, it is a tragedy. (Just thinking about it - I'm welling up! The scene at the end with the little robot and the watering can...)

Aw, dude... Silent Running always makes me well up... That little robot... And the emotions shown by the robots!!!

Then there is Always... (Richard Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter)... That makes me a little weepy!!!

Whenever those films are on, I can't help myself... I know I'll fill up, but that doesn't stop me!!!

Re: Did you cry? (be honest)

Hmm... never seen most of these films. Films don't tend to make me cry anyway, and I didn't cry in ROTK.

That said, I am silly enough to be able to make myself cry just be thinking of sad or horrid things. The train once run over a cyclist, and it had to stop and wait for the police for ages, and of course they wouldn't let us get off. I kept thinking of breaking-up sound of the bike as we went over it and ended up crying, and everyone else kept giving me weird looks. I never managed to find out who the cyclist was, either.

Oh yes- I've just remembered. The last episode of David the Gnome, when they turned into trees, sent me into a tantrum of howling. It was just so cruel- it was obvious, even when I was about 5, that they'd died.

Watch out for Silent Running in the TV listings - as your in the UK, I'll try and keep an eye out for you. It is still a very relevant film today, though it's a few decades old now.

Re: Did you cry? (be honest)

Lion King made me cry when I watched it the second time with my parents sitting by my side....I actually covered that up! Well..ROTK didn't make me cry through, but when I listen to the soundtracks it really got me, I mean the Fellowship and the Two Towers, didn't listen to ROTK that many times since I don't own it. I cannot believe I actually cried at Gollum's Song(in the soundtrack, not the fish and pond one, though that was funny).. It was like:" no loyal friends was ever there for me.........then you will weep, when you face the end alone. You are lost, you can never go home" Serious, that was a touching song!

But David the Gnome... that was terrible. It traumatised me for life.

What the hell are you talking about!!!. If this was the way the book was written then that`s how it must be portrayed. Its the books fault not the film

I haven't seen Return of the King yet, but I got teary-eyed just watching Spider-Man. Imagine my reactions to LOTR!

Re: Did you cry? (be honest)

I shed a tear watching Amistad, when one of the prisoner's chanted the only word of english he new: Free. That was a very strong moment. Also, the footage from Columbine and 11/9 really gets me going. I don't know why- I was pretty apathetic to it [11/9] when I sat watching CNN that day.

Re: Did you cry? (be honest)

I haven't seen Amistad, but LOTR only had me for a scene or two. Glory, on the other hand, had me in tears from beginning to end the first time I watched it. Powerful stuff.

Re: Did you cry? (be honest)

The ROTK end sequence is appalling. It is all geared up to try and emote the viewer. Went straight over my head. I want to see the scouring of the Shire. The Boromir scene had me choking back the tears, but was not so tear jerking as the scene from the book. Everytime I hear Sean Bean on those O2 adverts I get all emotional. Legends of the Fall makes me cry like a little baby. My girlfriend says that the scene where the horse dies in Dances with Wolves is her most tearful scene.

Re: Did you cry? (be honest)

Glory is a great film. I have never seen Amistad though I remember wanting to see it when it came out years ago. The scene at the end of Bad Boy Bubby, where Bubby is playing with his little babies outside....symbolic and awsome.

Re: Did you cry? (be honest)

Seen Amistad and Glory, but felt they didn't offer as much power as they could have. Good films, but something in their direction seemed slightly askew. Possibly an over-emphasis on American sentiment, perhaps.
