Re: Harry Potter: The 1st Movie

I think I'm lucky; I started the HP series when JK had written the first five books already, so I didn't have the ten-year wait like some people have had. I don't think I could stand waiting a decade to find the answer to the mystery, and, quite frankly, I'm in awe of anybody who has.

Pfff. Lightweight.

Me mam got me Books 1 and 2 for Christmas in 1998, because some Book Review thingy said that they were worth the read. Ever since I've had them on the day they came out (or two days before, in the case of PoA ).

Re: Harry Potter: The 1st Movie

I read the first book when I was in year...five, so that must have been perhaps mid-1998. I was part of a library quiz and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was one of the books we had to read. I wasn't exactly blown away by it, but it was an all right read. Then my parents bought the second and third book (which was in hardback so I guess it must have only just been released) for my birthday. I was at secondary school then, so that must have been October 1999, I guess...(yes, looking in the Prisoner of Azkaban, it was published in 1999).

Book four and book five I think I bought on the day of publication. Book 6 I can't even remember if I did or not...but by then I didn't care. Just like I'm not rushing out next week to buy the final book. I'll get it eventually, of course, but I'm certainly not queuing at midnight to buy one, no chance.

Two days? How does one aquire the book two days before its release date?

But yeah, I wasn't thrilled by books 1-3 on the first read. By the time I got to four, however, I started "getting into them".

Besides which, you'll miss out on the idiots shouting in the car park - at the last launch here, for HBP, there was a bloke shouting out "Dumbledore's dead! Dumbledore's dead!" until someone went over and hit him....

I blame Amazon, personally.

Oh, but how the rest of the class was jealous! And I'd even got the majority of them reading Harry Potter, the ungrateful swines.

Re: Harry Potter: The 1st Movie

Me too Leisha!!! I despise people who ruin book and movie endings for me. Let's start an "If you ruin the ending of something for me I'll beat you over the head with a mallet" club. I had LoTR ruined for me darn people!
Anyway, I actually got the first book from my mom in 98' but didn't read it becuse I was one of those (everyone is reading it so I won't kind of kids.) Eventually I ran out of books to read and I picked up Harry Potter and read it. I then promptly ran out to the nearest bookstore for books 2 and 3 and have been buying them ever since. I can't wait for the conclusion to the series.
