Just how extended? Just how extended are the extended editions? When you hear that there's "40 minutes extra" I somehow assumed that it's just a couple of long extra scenes tacked on - but from what I've been hearing, there's a lot of detail present in current scenes entirely missing - so we see a very edited version at the cinema. I have noticed specific parts in the trailers that weren't in the cinema editions - for example, in the ROTK trailer you see Eomer grieving with his father's body, and one of the hobbits being knighted into service of Theoden - neither I remembered seeing.

Re: Just how extended? I've been thinking about this a lot actually. In the ROTK trailer there's loads of scenes, shots and dialogue I don't recognise from the movie. I've read several rumours about the ROTK EE - apparently, it's going to be four hours and ten minutes long - but the additional fan club credits are included in that.

Re: Just how extended? That's true...The extras are always useful to me, being a wannabe movie director and all And it's fascinating to see the way that make movies, especially something as phenomenal as LOTR.

Re: Just how extended? Yes, I'm waiting for the boxed set - just in case they throw another "extra features/footage" bombshell at me. I felt very cheated buying the original DVD release of Fellowship - I wasn't aware there was another edition coming out until after I'd bought it.

Re: Just how extended? I fell for that with Fellowship, Mostly because i wanted to see the mvoie again so damn bad, i wasnt going to wait an extra 3 months for the extended version. I managed to hold off on two towers, though. The ees are worth every penny, sheckle, or whatever currency you happen to use that is really small. both of the earlier sets added so much backstory that was missing, it only helped. Plus, I like to buy into a feeling or mood for hours when i am watching movies (hence why i own the entire alien legacy), so 8+ hours of LOTR is cool by me. I'm with Myla, too, i love seeing how they made the movies. Someday, i would like to write screenplays (have several in the works), and would like to eventually graduate to direction. Between the LOTR boxed sets, and the original special edition of terminator 2, i think i may be able to pull it off ![]()

Re: Just how extended? There is a box set coming out at the end of the month but this only contains the 3 theatrical versions. Ive brought both editions so far and wil more than likely do the same with ROTK as soon as I get the EE one I pass the theatrical versions onto my mum

Re: Just how extended? I like to watch both versions of the LotR DVD's... The theatrical and extended versions... I may even get the BIG Trilogy boxed set version... And if there is a further extended Director's Cut version, I might get that too... I dunno why, but I have done this with Star Wars (currently three versions on VHS - and will buy the DVD versions as well)... I also did it with Blade Runner - theatrical and Directors Cut, and Aliens (theatrical and Special Edition - and hoping to get the DVD version)...
