Question Gate Activation

Here's an interesting question:
When the gate is activated and the "water" plume shoots out of the front, what would happen if someone was struck by it? They always duck, and if you notice in the movie the plume inverts on the other side. Would someone be sucked through the 'Gate at a high rate (read dangerous) of speed? An thoughts, or opinions?

They would die, plain, simple, and nothing but smoking boots  - see season two: "Prisoners" which deals with this explicitly.

The same causative effect is also used in season three "A Hundred Days".

[Which leaves a sort of anomaly involving the iris - see some of my other threads in this forum... ]
