We at Ausgate should be proud!

Just a little update...I have had the fun of thwarting off 96 Intrusion attempts on the server itself last week. And No it is not from any member from the site.
But, apparently some people whom I have traced back to Russia believe that there must be something very important on the server to generate that must interest. So, everything is fine and nothing was lost. About the only thing anyone may have noticed was a little "slow-down" from time to time.
As a reminder..as members stationed at the SGC...Keep all of our technology confidential..LOL Even if there is an agreement in place to "share" information with the Russian Government..hehe

It could one of my comrades Reetou suicide teams, trying to disrupt earth communications from deep within another country. Such plots are frequently used as distration techniques, or false-blame.

It could also be one of the replicators has survived, and has spawned enough they are now controlling some computing centre...

Or, it is just some disenfrachised teenager in Russia who had nothing better to do that mess around with a site that gets a lot of hits.

Though, I admit I like P'Teppic's answers better.

*sigh* I just don't get it. I mean, Ausgate rocks and all, but what is there to get from hacking it?

I guess I just wasn't meant to know.

Then again, *Morrigan* doesn't ever let me have control of my body so I can think. Damn Goa'ulds.. always taking me over and using me like a pay phone... and they always use calling cards!

Well, they could get all our email addresses, any other computers on the network (if any), or potentially be used to launch any sort of attack in "our" name...

This kind of stuff happens all the time...people sniffing around looking for credit card numbers and stuff like that. Fortunately, two things we have going for us are:
1) No Credit Card Numbers.
2) They are unable to get in.

Just a nusciance is all...hehe

Geekman, you could always set up a little "surprise" for the hackers. Just a little something, like when an attempted hack is recognized, you return a string which would immediately delete a couple key files in their OS so they have to wipe the drive and reinstall everything. winaspi.dll comes to mind (instead of deleting just copy a bad one over it). Since you're not messing with track 0 or other key sections their alarms shouldn't go off. If they can't get their system running they'd have no idea what you did.

My winaspi.dll got corrupted from a bad driver install a few days ago and I ended up with teh good ol' "blue screen of death," even when I tried reinstalling Win98. It "hurts" to have to reformat a 40G and reinstall over 8G of stuff. Fortunately I saw that as a possibility and archived email, URLs, docs, development work, etc, to the 40G D drive. And for some strange reason my web access speed is between 50% and almost 100% faster. Guess I tweaked it a bit better this time, but don't know what I did different this time.
