Re: Favorite '73 to '95 Floyd Album

Yeah, isnt it uncanny the way parts of the lyrics seem to describe whats going on onscreen. I think its mearly coincidence, but still very interesting.

I have had a Pink Floyd day today. I've been redesigning a website today and it was stressing me out, so I have just put on a stack of albums. This is todays playlist so far.

Wish You Were Here
A Momentary Lapse of Reason
Wish You Were Here (again)
A Momentary Lapse of Reason (again)
Animals
Atom Heart Mother
Meddle
More
Obscured By Clouds
Works

and I am half way through The Division Bell now.

I have no idea how many hours that all adds up to, but its probably not healthy. I need to do this website by Tuesday, so there will be much more Floyd to come I would imagine.

Re: Favorite '73 to '95 Floyd Album

Going to put myself in the firing line here -
Has anyone actually listened to Pink Floyd without being under the influence of a mind altering substance?
When the day comes that I decide suicide will be my next challenge in life, I intend to imprison myself & play Pink Floyd non stop through hidden speakers that I cannot find to destroy until I find the courage to commit seppuku with a blunt butter knife. I anticipate 15 minutes of Floyd should do the trick.
Just my opinion, but could never understand how straight people got into it. Off your face, maybe, but then, off your face makes everything look different, hence what they say about ugly people...

Well, I wouldn't say I'm a huge Floyd fan but I've enjoyed listening to Dark Side of the Moon - and am always completely sober so I'd have to disagree with your assessment.

I like Pink Floyd also...not everything they have done, but I certainly wasn't under the influence of anything whenever I listened to them.

Aside from a few beers on occasion, I don't get into mind altering substances either - the only Floyd fans I know are pot heads however. Each to their own of course...but Floyd?!

Re: Favorite '73 to '95 Floyd Album

I have to go for Wish You Were Here as my favourite album - just ahead of Dark Side Of The Moon (which simply doesn't have a bad track on it). Reason being that the epic Shine On You Crazy Diamond on WYWH never ever ceases to thrill and chill somewhere in the dark landscapes of my soul. Few pieces of music can evoke such deep and strange feelings time and time again for me.
You can probably tell that I like that song quite a lot!
Don't know what the Floyd sound like when heard through drug induced haze. Never tried it. Don't need to. Don't want to.

Re: Favorite '73 to '95 Floyd Album

I've been a Floyd fan since my teens and I've never done anything harder than co-codamol and I was teetotal due to martial arts until I had kids, so my enjoyment wasn't based on being completely out of my skull

I enjoy the music and the lyrics and the ambience, although of course different albums/tracks fit different moods.

I had a bad couple of years a while back when my son died and I developed something called anhedonia...which is where you can't experience any good emotion.

Comfortably Numb, still brings back the bad memories when I need to be there.

*revives this poll to match the other one*

I voted for Wish You Were Here.

Current listening: a live Pink Floyd concert from June 1975, which is what got me searching for Floyd threads in the first place.

Oh, by the way - there's a box set coming out very soon containing all the Pink Floyd studio albums.

hehe, I was only ten years old when it was released. I liked Slade and Wizzard in those days. Still do.

Re: Favorite '73 to '95 Floyd Album

I struggled to decide like said before Dark Side doesn't have a bad track on it and I especially love brain damage and the vocal on the great gig in the sky, and Wish you where here for the title track alone is worth the money but ended up going for the Wall simply because it is an epic masterpiece.

Also like to point out I do not use drugs and when I listen to Floyd I'm always sober, but I am not a die hard fan like some some on there meandering space trip journeys just go beyond me, also like to point out I also like the Syd Barret stuff also

Funny why you dislike albums...my mother was a teacher, and I hated and loathed "Another Brick in the Wall"...still change stations if it comes on the radio.....

"Another Brick in the Wall"...is one of my fav Floyd songs of all time. Then again I could relate to it being a rebellious sort at school.
