it's not a 'who' it's a 'what' -- okay- and it is not my intention to offend, tho i might anyway - some ppl claim that it's an actual dialect based on African languages - but, my opinion is that it's lazy English - sloppied words and such - a lot like the 'translation' above - only where it has 'said' in the first like, it would actually be 'aksed' some localities in the US tried to get "Ebonics" instituted as an actual 'class' in schools - and i shall stop there to preclude any potential debates on the subject - | |

| Thanks. I love accents and dialects. They make things seems so much more real! Perhaps that is what is missing from many Sci-Fi shows? Not saying shows should be full of people speaking Geordi or thick Narfalk, Nobody would understand a word of it. But would Red Dwarf be as funny as it is, if Lister wasn't a typical Scouser and Rimmer was not from Essex? Or perhaps Worf would be more threatening if he sounded like a New York gangster? Anyhow Ebonics sounds as though it may be related to another dialect I have been told about called Gullah, spoken in the Carolina's. Another West African/English combo. |

| Re: MIS- Why Do Klingons Have Lumpy Heads? [Drabble/monologue] Been rather too long since the last one. So with the help of a rather quaint little book- May I present an effort in rather strong Cotswold as it may have been used in late 19th Century England. “Whis Klingons git grimit nips, gaffer?” shart Jimmy says (Ee got the Treks bad es see?) Gaffer gaze oop from es gamit wracker a' twine. “Es easy me dear. Es n'er Midensday ina week!” Shart Jimmy ganders yon gaffer as ees all confussed, so es ol' gaffer explains a giz. “Whes t'old Squire gis Sam es meddins a' gis dun Bull for his nog, es Jill gets him crom wit 'er pin o'er es nip. Wit' nev' day mun meddins ol' Klingons gets es crom ever' day. Thas whis Klingons git grimit nips!” And for those as don't know a Gamit Wracker, apparently it was a rather elaborate poachers trap designed not only to be quite lethal for its prey, but whisk it in to hiding so the keeper can't find it. |
