Ohh I just discovered a new type of fic....Drabbles. These have to be exactly 100 words long. You can take up to an extra 15 for a title. And another 15 for a Disclaimer and Summary. Trust me, it’s a lot harder than it sounds. Go on challenge for yourself and hopefully we can get them to take off here. So how's brave enough to go first??? :star:

Re: Lazyness. Too lazy to string together 100 words? Maria -- I've been reading a few of these Drabbles on-line. They all seem to be Dr.Who stories for some reason. Did you know that you can have 'half-drabbles' and 'double-drabbles' with 50 and 200 words, obviously. They don't have to be funny, or have a punchline, but they are a little boring otherwise. I've written another one called 'Federation' -- new thread coming up!

All the Drabbles I've read are Andromeda ones, and they're normally character thoughts or a scene through somebody's POV, which can be done in 100 words without too much difficulty. But i think the ones we have here are extra special, being able to develop some kind of plot and give it a punchline - all in a hundred words....that takes talent! *Standing ovations for Dave and Ray* :star: Just outta curiousty- do you plan to try the half or double drabbles??

I'm going away on holiday for awhile, so won't be posting anything (though I suppose I could still write something). But, later I might try a half-drabble or double-drabble. How about some competitions here? (write a drabble about a character or situation in xxx weeks) then we could vote for the best one. There is still only four of us posting here though, so maybe not just yet.

Origin of Drabbles. I did a bit of research on the origin of Drabbles: Nothing in the dictionary: drab·ble, drab·bled, drab·bling, drab·bles To make or become wet and soiled by dragging; draggle. [Middle English drabelen.] To fish with a long line and rod; as, to drabble for barbels There is the author: Drabble, Margaret, 1939-, English novelist b. Sheffield, Yorkshire. Drabble's realistic vision of an England split between traditional values and contemporary desires. She doesn't write any. There are plenty of sci-fi drabbles about: Janeway-Chakotay relationship drabble contest winners. Then I found it! GO HERE: The Drabble Project Apparently, the idea started as a parlour game at parties with the Victorians. You have heard the story of Mary Shelley writing 'Frankenstein'. Well she wrote it in a Drabble game, according to this site. So they have always been associated with science fiction. The idea was resurrected in the 1970's to write Dr. Who stories.
