Lightbulb Anderson's departure not firm

Gillian Anderson may be talking about this season being her final season as Dana Scully on The X-Files, but her manager is saying not to count her out just yet.
"She's happy to be going back to do the ninth season, then her contract is up, so the assumption is that will be the end," said Connie Freibergh, Anderson's manager, to Reuters. "We don't even know if the show is continuing [beyond Season 9]."

Not to rule anything out, Freibergh said that anything in regards to Season 10 would have to be faced "when it happens."

Earlier this week, Anderson told a London newspaper that she was making this upcoming season on The X-Files her last one to spend more time with her daughter and to hit the London stage

I'm not sure about Anderson leaving, but they have announced that Lucy Lawless (Xena) will be joining the cast next season. Sounds to me like they're ready in case Anderson does leave.

Lucy isn't being brought on as a major role. She has a part in the two-part season opener and possibly two more episodes after that. Also, she's stated rather firmly that she doesn't want to join another television cast but rather would like to move into movies.

If anything, Reyes and Dogget will likely pick up where Scully and Mulder left off if they chose to continue.

And they plan to do movies with Scully and Mulder.

ok, if and when she does leave, they really need to do something about Reyes' character. i mean, dogget's cool...there's room to develop his character but reyes....is it just me or does her character suck? and the biggest problem is i just can't see any room for improvement. the only thing you really know about her as a person is that she kind of believes in the paranormal type stuff, and that she's an old friend of john's. other than that there really isn't much about her personality-less character. or maybe it's just me?

Let's hope that is there is a 10 season for the X-Files that Scully is in it. I really don't want to imagine what will happen is she too left. Mulder leaving was very bad for the X-Files, but I think Scully leaving also will be a crisis because suddenly they're without the two main characters and fan base favorites. I have to admit that I really enjoy RP as Doggett, but also have to admit that is not the fan base opinion. That is why Scully leaving will make it worse. As for Reyes, at first I have my doubt, lately I personally have see some improvement, I don't see it as a huge character like Scully but her character have some improvements in the recent episodes. Is Scully goes and there is a 10 season of the X-Files it will be without doubt a new ballgame, completely different and I don't know how well the fan base will take that. The only way to see it will be as a new program, with new characters, same name.

Cool

Looks as tho it is the end for Gillian Anderson now since X-Files is coming to an end. It wouldn't have been the same with her and Mulder out of the series. No offence to Doggett and Reyes but there it is.

Well, Doggett and Reyes just wouldn't be able to carry the show on their own.

No, I don't think they would either. Don't think much of Reyes.

IMHO x-file is a sinking ship now, everyone should get to their life boats before it goes down.

I've watched/ and loved the show since the start, but to do a 10th series Mulderless, Scullyless, and Carterless just sounds silly.

Im suer D&R can carry on the torch of Mulder and Scully, but they ain't Mulder and Scully.

very well said indeed. And I for one am glad they didn't try it. It was painful enough to lose Mulder in season 9 but to have lost Scully too would have been to much. I don't mind Doggett and Reyes to much but they just can't do it alone.
