The Talusian Defector, part 1/?

This is the latest sequel in my series, it's not yet finished. Comments are welcome.

The Talusian Defector

By Emily M. Hanson

Disclaimer: Star Trek is owned by Paramount. I’m not making any money from this fan fiction. Amuria and the Talusians are my own characters. Please don’t borrow them without my permission.

Part 1

Amuria piloted her small spacecraft expertly, using her powers to cloak it from the vessels guarding the dimensional wormhole. She was taking an incredible risk by going to the Federation with what she knew. If Amuria was caught, she would face the loss of her powers and subsequent torture in a Talusian prison, where mortals languished for infractions as small as thinking about freedom. In a place where thought itself was a crime, Amuria was amazed that she’d been able to hide her own thoughts from her commanders. They would be furious when they discovered her disappearance. She slipped past the Talusian vessels and into Federation space, and was not surprised to receive a hail from the nearest ship.

“This is Captain Davis of the USS Phoenix. Please state your intentions.”

Amuria took a deep breath. Just beneath her pale skin, energy swirls darkened, showing her nervousness. “My intentions are to defect from the Talusian empire, and to aid the Federation and the Continuum in any way I can.”

The human looked unruffled. That was the last thing he’d expected. Reading his thoughts was not a challenge for her; he thought she was going to fire on him.

“I will alert Starfleet command. Please remain where you are and power down your weapons.”

“Thank you, Captain Davis, for giving me the benefit of the doubt.”

“We are not hostile,” the human replied, “but we will defend ourselves if necessary. Captain Davis out.”

Admiral Nichols listened as Captain Davis explained the situation, then said that the Talusian defector should be escorted to Earth, where she would be debriefed by Starfleet Intelligence officers. Captain Davis then informed Amuria of the decision, and she agreed.

On Earth, Cadet Quincy felt a tingle of power as the Talusian arrived. He sensed that type of energy in the universe before, when the ship carrying his mother and over two hundred near-mortal Q to another dimension had been destroyed by the Talusians.

“What is it?” Susan Winters asked, noting Quincy’s expression. She was a human female with long red hair, who had impressed the young Q with her intelligence after he had saved her life from another Q. They’d become good friends since then. She was also a Starfleet cadet.

“The Talusians are back,” he said seriously. “At least, one of them is.”

“Do you know why?”

“I can’t read the Talusian’s mind. Her shields are very sophisticated. But she’s being escorted to Starfleet headquarters. I hope they haven’t underestimated her.”

Quincy sighed. Humans were prone to trusting others at first glance. The entire species was, in his opinion, far too gullible and optimistic. If the Talusians had some sort of deception in mind, the humans would likely fall for it hook, line and sinker.

“Are you going over there?” Susan asked?

“Not unless I’m invited. Want to play chess or something? I’m bored out of my skull. That is, I would be, if I had a skull.”

“You’ll probably beat me within five moves.”

“I won’t cheat.”

“All right.”

Amuria went through several rounds of debriefing before she finally met with Admiral Blake Roberts, Starfleet’s Security Chief. He was a stocky man, not overweight, but the type with solid muscle from constantly working out. She was not surprised that he thought her attractive, since most mortals did. Amuria was a tall slender female with long, silvery-white hair. Her pale skin was a thin cover for the bright energy swirls underneath, which glowed in the debriefing room’s dim light.

Rifling through Admiral Roberts’ recent memories without him discovering her presence, the Talusian learned that a Q was working directly with the Federation. That was interesting. She made a mental note to speak with Quincy later.

Here's a bit more

“What information can you give me that will aid us?” the Admiral inquired.

“My species is planning another attack on this dimension. It is imminent, although even I don’t know exactly when. But it will be soon, perhaps within this month.”

“We defeated your species before.”

“With the help of the Q Continuum, yes. Without them, you would be our slaves now. Talusian slaves do not survive well under our rule. Most mortal species in my dimension would become extinct, except for our direct intervention.”

“All right. But what can you tell me that will help us survive this attack?”

“I offer you my power and insight into the ways of my people. When the attack comes, I will give you aid in any way that I can.”

She was like the Q, Admiral Roberts thought. You only trusted them as far as you could throw them…and given their power, throwing them at all was unlikely. Unfortunately, he had no other choice except to believe her, for now. “Okay. I’ll take your word for it.”

Amuria nodded. “You’re wise not to trust easily, but I will earn it.”

Exclamation

Good storyline building.

One small question, does the Admiral believe Amurai or not?
She seems not to think so, but there is nothing to say in his spech if he does?

Well, as his thoughts went, he does not have any choice but to trust her. However, he is being cautious about it.

I wondered, 'cos it would be like the boss saying he was going to double my pay for doing a simple job for him?
I'd do it, but I wouldn't believe him until it appeared in me pay packet.
