Dawn is Buffy, Buffy is Dawn Here is the partial text of an email that I sent to a friend about this subject: If Buffy could stand-in for Dawn and be sacrificed in her place because they are mystically the same person, perhaps Dawn will be the substitute Slayer for Buffy. Which makes for good conflict when Buffy returns and tries to get Dawn to stop being a Slayer. Of course, Dawn will resist, especially if she has some early success at Slaying, under Giles direction. It also opens the door to a lot of plot potential: - We get to see the early days of a Slayer, which the series has never done - Buffy, Kendra & Faith were all accomplished Slayers when we first saw them. - What if Dawn rescued Buffy, how would that affect their relationship? - What if some of Buffy's friends were on Dawn's side? - If you thought that Buffy and Faith were competitive, just imagine if they were sisters. - What if Dawn found herself agreeing more with Faith's style of Slaying, impulsive, over-confident and full of youthful stubbornness? - What if Dawn, because of her youth and inexperience returned to the traditional relationship with the Watcher's Council? After all, the Watchers may be the only ones that can keep Dawn out of an orphanage until Buffy returns. How would Buffy react to her sister being their ward? ----------------- I'm kinda warming to the idea, despite the fact that I think Michelle looks too fragile to be a fighter. It's preferable to her being constantly in need of protecting or rescuing. I wonder if she is undergoing theatrical combat training during the off-season?

it is an interesting idea, but i'm not sure how it would work out?? If Dawn is to become trained as a slayer, this would mean that Buffy couldnt be around for a while, but i would hope that Buffy is back in the 1st eppy...

Dawn as slayer You seem to be assuming that the premiere will pick up right after Buffy's death. Remember "Becoming" ended the third season and "Anne" begins the day before summer vacation ends. That means at least three months between those episodes. I couldn't help but notice that Michelle and Sarah were just about the same height at the end. They may have to write in some time, if Michelle has a growth spurt in the off-season. We all know how quickly an adolescent's appearance can change in just a few months. Especially a young woman's if you get my drift. On when Buffy will return: I know that they all say that Joss has creative control and that UPN has been good about not making demands, but would you like to be the one to tell the network executives: " I know that you are paying us twice as much for Sarah and Buffy, but we would like to keep her on the sidelines for the first few episodes." Can you say - NO WAY. And the real tip-off: Just why do you think the first episode is two hours? So they can do a two hour story about the other characters? Come on. It's obvious that we will only have to wait an hour or so before Buffy returns. IT WILL HAPPEN BEFORE THE PREMIERE ENDS. It will be the climax, in fact, of that show. That's not a spoiler because I'm just guessing like you, but you can bet the house on it.

yup i've heard about the 2 hr spl in my reading around 2nite, so it is pretty much obvious that Buffy will make her comeback during that ep. But will it we straight after "The Gift" or 3 months later? A lot of the seasons have started after the summer, s2 had Buffy coming back from summer with dad, s3 she came back from summer away, s4 started with the start of college, and s5 started around "back-to-school" time for Dawn, IIRC.. But since college went out of the window for much of Season 5, this may not be so relevant in S6...
