(Wasn't trying to sound mean with that title, but lighten up on the guy.) When we remember that we are being allowed to access the site because of someone letting ausgate sit on their server, we also have to remember that their business has priority. Also remember how many users use ausgate, and all the data it transfers. It's a big load on a server, especially if that server already has high volume traffic on it. You also have to consider how many modems are in its bank, how many T1 or T10s it has, and all sort of stuff. Allan is doing his best to continue giving us access while everything is being worked on and while he's waiting for a new server. Instead of giving him a hard time about it and making him crazy and feel unappreciated, do what I do. (Well, maybe not that.) Don't go to the site if it's too busy or you're not satisfied with the throughput. I'm sure he has more than enough frustration without listening to us complain. In my other posts about the errors and time comparisons (and emails with them) I was trying to help keep him abreast of some of the stuff so he didn't have to do it himself. (I know how frustrating it can be to try tracking everything whaile trying to fix problems in a large networked application.) Now I see that perhaps I shouldn't have passed that info along since he was no doubt getting flooded with emails and PMs. Everyone should lighten up and take a break for a little while so that Allan and his crew can work on the site in peace. The less we're trying to access the site and complain the the easier it should be for him. Programming VERY large databases I know that when people start complaining to me about this or that, it's almost like they're attacking my kid (never married and no kids but you know what I mean). Allan might feel the same. And disappointed and unappreciated. We don't want to give him that impression, or stress him out any more than he probably is. Based on the obvious effort that has been put into the site to date, not limited to it's look and capabilities, it's obvious that those involved have set high standards for themselves. We should be glad about that. Setting high standards and having problems like the ones that are there now only add to the frustration of someone who obviously takes great prid in his work/creation. I'd go as far as to say maybe he should take it off line so that he and his guys can work on it in peace. After they take a few days off and relax with their families.

I'm sorry!:smilej: :smilej: I didn't mean to sound unapreciative of the work Allen's doing and all the effort he put's into it! It's just so frustrating to know that there's an Ausgate site there and not be able to get into it! Once again, my humble apologies for sounding so ungrateful! :smilej: :smilej: :smilej:

I have enough trouble accessing the site with the kids bugging me and work always expecting me to be there.... Now lets step into Allans Shoes....He has all that.. Plus us "KIDS" begging for more. I know I have said a few things that seemed like that, but it was in jest, and I have the utmost respect for all the work that Allan is putting into this site....Hell, How many others can create a site that is so popular that it needs relocation, and juggle lifes realities too???

truer words have never been said Koala, i mean Allan has done all of this for our enjoy ment and what do we do, we b**** at him (pardon my french)about the little details that aren't site threating . I mean come on, what gives us the right to tell him that this needs done, and this, and this.... you get my point!! He has done a wonderful job on the site and enjoy it for its little querks, that is what gives it its persona!!! Keep up the good work Allan, and i hope this post and the numerous other post on this subject will finally convince people to either not post the problems or say it in a nice way!!!!!!! (steps down from the soapbox)

Also remember that there's always the possiblity that he gets burned out or fed up which could also lead to his deciding to take an extended break from working on the site at all. I think he knows we're grateful and can overlook the complaints a bit. Also remember that he's a family man with a wife and kids. Hell, he might even have a dog that hasn't got to chase a stick for a while. I've never been married or had kids, but have seen what can happen. While he wants to get the site back up, he has more important responsibilities which (correctly) have to take precedence. If it takes him a while to get the time to get things working the way he wants them to, we should all be patient and supportive of whatever Allan decides to do.

Bugs Seeing as I started this thread, I better finish it. When the new site is running, please send details of bugs to - ausgate@sgc-cert.com - not to allan. Let him get on with the job. Only post positive ideas to Allan, I'm sure he'll be happy to receive them.
