This wasn't meant to be hard. Final clues then I'll just tell you...

He was born on March 3, 1920 in Vancouver, Canada. During World War II, he was flying an artillery observation plane for the Royal Canadian Air Force. Prior to this, he had been wounded in battle on D-day. Following his military discharge, he returned to school. He eventually became one of the busiest voice artists on radio. He originally came to the US on a scholarship to the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York.

He just got his own Star on the pavement on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. And he was missing a finger.

edit: It was James Doohan.

Anyone who wants to go next is welcome. I challenge you to test my TOS knowledge.

Re: Classic Trek Quiz.

The missing ship was the USS Defiant.

It returned in Enterprise in a mirror universe episode called In a Mirror, Darkly in which it was explained that it had been sent 100 years back in time, and captured by the Tholians, who had attempted to steal its technology before it was commandeered by agents of the Terran Empire.

The name of Pike's horse?
