War Tiger - A romantic fantasy epic that doesn't take itself too seriously.

War Tiger, basically, is the seven-book fantasy epic I've been writing for about four years now. Book one, Legends Of The Seal, is being rewritten at the moment and I have Chapter Two almost finished. Before I post any of the actual story here I'm putting up this plot synopsis to see if anyone here's interested in reading it. The prologue and first chapter can also be viewed here. I guess I made it begin like your average fantasy story, but believe me it's not! I've included twists and surprises later on to make it original. "There is, the old legends say, a place, in the distant reaches of the stars, where Light longs for shadow, and the Darkness yearns to come into the bright. Here, in Fengalonia, there can be no good and evil, only what you choose to believe.
"Caught in a war between the Light and Dark...Caught in a forbidden love story, retold throughout eternity..."

The planet of Fengalonia a lush, green and harmonious was invaded by Pawanzell, a demon lord from another world, a realm of Darkness. Years of violence and tragedy ensued, until eventually the demon king was defeated and peace restored, but at a terrible price. Millions were slaughtered, and entire kingdoms were lost. And, for a reason known only to themselves, the Guardians of Fengalonia placed a law of Divide upon the land, and a punishment beyond any other for breaking this law.
Ten thousand years later, demons and Guardians have passed into hazy myth and distant legends, little more than fireside stories. But Pawanzell is biding his time, waiting to seize the planet. Myla Loquelle is seven years old, growing up in the remote Arronkari Forest, unaware of such terrors. Until, that is, Pawanzell ransacks her house, murdering her family and leaving her orphaned. Instructed by the Guardians and aided by young fairy sorceress Nuada Rodeshwyn, Myla journeys to Hollyrule to find her one living sister Tessa, and encounters unfathomable danger and mystery along the road.
And in Sarhil, mountain realm of quiet farms and blissful warm valleys, lonely farm boy Fran Reetwyse is ignorant of the hardship fate has in store for him. Fleeing from bullies and beatings he finds Brim, the last remaining dragon in Fengalonia, and the two form a profound friendship. And then Pawanzell visits Fran in the guise of a beautiful woman, and tempts him into taking revenge and rebelling against his own.

The stage is set. Light and Dark have made their choices. As Myla and Fran set out upon their parallel quests, something higher, deeper, darker comes into play. The eternal war is beginning again.

Well, I read some of the pieces on your site and I thought the flow was really good. As for the synopsis, the notion of a boy befriending a dragon may seem a bit 'done' right now, if the blurbs I'm reading about Eragon are accurate, but I do understand that you have originated the idea independantly. It really depends a lot on how you treat it.

Yeah, I realise how cliched the boy/dragon relationship is, but the whole idea behind War Tiger was taking familiar situations and characters that people are comfortable with, and giving them twists. By chapter five these twists will come into people's attention.

The synopsis is actually quite interesting - the italicised part is intriguing, though the first sentence of the synopsis reads close to cheese. However, the rest is well written and inviting. The whole thing does sound interesting, and you've presented it very well. It sounds as if you have a very real and promising story there in the making. Best of luck!

Thanks for your critiques everyone! As I've probably said, I deliberately made the story seem cheesy, later presenting it as something more original. For example, my conception of the war between Good and Evil is different to anything I've read so far. Also, the characters are a lot more "real", doing all the daft things we mere mortals do. Stuff like that.
