I give up! It does look like it, but I guess you can never be sure until they actually begin to film it.

I've tried to keep a running tally of everything that's happened with the movie, and I report it on this page at my site:

http://dimensionofcontinuity.com/bts.html

The movie is real and is not dead, but it is currently seeing no forward movement. Several factors could change that, and Universal has shown interest in the past (a deal almost formed in March of 2001); we just have to wait and let RK handle it.

A couple of things I have not added to the material, though. I had the opportunity to meet and talk with John Rhys Davies around September of last year, and he had no knowledge of the movie. John is still very jaded about his Sliders experience, and he really feels he wouldn't be asked to be part of it. Arturo is RK's favorite character though (probably because Arturo was partially based on RK), so I would expect John to get asked once something is solid.

In fact, John may help plans for a Sliders movie become solid. His part in Lord of the Rings is increasing his star power in the feature film circuit. Any time someone is part of something that big, it does that. So using that success of John's as a selling point, RK may be getting set to make another attempt to get the movie green lit. It's a perfect opportunity because Lord of the Rings is guaranteed to stay in the media for the next two years...so Universal could advertise that the Sliders movie has Lord of the Rings star John Rhys Davies while LotR is still in theaters and fresh on everyone's mind (since production of a Sliders movie wouldn't take more than a year).

As for downloading complete Sliders episodes off the internet, I'm afraid that's the one thing Universal doesn't like. Every person who has attempted to make this available has been promptly shut down by the studio. So if you ever happen to actually find a site offering complete episodes for download, you better download them quickly...because they won't be there for long.

Nothing has been greenlighted. However, there are people trying to get it done...and that's an obvious important and first step. Nothing has happened with Quantum Leap for so long because generally no one was trying. Now that he's on Star Trek, Bakula made an effort and now Universal is interested in a possible QL movie (most likely due to Bakula's new found status thanks to Trek).

With the Sliders movie effort, Weiss was close to having a Sliders movie greenlighted in March of 2001. The fact that Universal was that interested means it can and will come up again in the future...and Weiss is still trying to get it made. Any number of new factors could tip the balance and make Universal greenlight the project. John Rhys-Davies gaining notority due to Lord of the Rings...the success of some type of parallel universe movie...even the interest of a noted director (such as Bryan Singer's interest causing a Battlestar Galactica revival). All we have to do is be patient and wait for the pieces to fall in place. There are people working to get it made, and that is the most important step of the process in my opinion...because Universal is reactive. They react to people persuing to get something made...they don't decide to do it on their own.

me? thanks but really I'm not. If you were ficcing you'd know my impatience a bit more. I always try but It's hard for me to type it. I get anxious at times. When I start taping my foot you know it's been a while since the last fic post.** I really hope the sliders movie comes soon! it's driving me up a wall with all this hope and waiting!

** *sigh*I miss Bee. And Kat. And I want Skip to panto but I know better. I miss Ms Gud Bod who needs to finish her Tyre Fic and I miss Gemmy. and I don't see peachy enough anymore. I'm sad. I miss the days when I was new and everyone I just named was in the prime of thier ficcing days. I know it's only been a year but it feels like so much longer ago when I last read Kat's excellent writing or how Bee Always Inspired me to wirte awesome fuzzy wuzzys, or talked with Gemmy over anything.

I'm glad cuz I have you and Sin and SKip to talk to.And talking in Angel and sliders and SG and Buffy and chitchat always makes me feel better.
