i would like to see some closure on the series' developments, but i think it would be too much for anyonw who hasnt seen the show to get up to speed on, thereby limiting the audience...

I agree. They would have to backtrack some of the story to appeal to a wider audience, and there is a lot to cover, so it doesn't leave much time to resolve anything. We would have to have a sequel for that.

I don't mean to go off-topic, but there is meant to be a Stargate film on the starting-blocks. There would be the same problem there. Will they begin at the end of the season or from the end of the original film?

The X-Files film did OK, stuck between two seasons.
Star Trek doesn't seem to have a problem. And they have difficulties with things like having Worf on DS9, yet he still just happens to be passing by when there is a TNG film. Clever scriptwriting could manage it.

Manhatten Cable Network (Unoffical)
Source: Thanks to CC Deville for providing the transcript of this

"...The most interesting show, which has a strong possibility of becoming a movie, is that of the recently cancelled cable show, 'SLIDERS'. The story tackles the question that has baffled historians over the centuries, and Hollywood futile attempts to expand on, of 'WHAT IF?'. What if one incident in time happened very differently, or with an opposite result, then what would the future, or in this case, the present Earth, look like?

The show 'SLIDERS' is based on such a question, as we follow the adventures of 4 reluctant friends, who by accident, begin the adventure of a lifetime, traveling to parallel Earths, where such occurances had happened. The leader of this motley group (played by 'Mission to Mars' star Jerry O'Connell) accidently invents such an instrument known as a timer (similar to a tv remote) to travel between an infinite number of Earth's in this parallell universe.

Because of the 'What if' idea, each adventure is fresh and exciting and could have lasted for many years, more than the five it struggled through. If it wasn't for the interference by the network exec's into this winning idea, we would still be enjoying theis show. We can be happy that this show did entertain us for five years, and can be seen today daily on the Sci-Fi station, the station that cancelled it for its last time.

From our sources, talks about a movie have struggled over the past year, and are in advanced stages of negotiation, with only the task of dotting the i's and crossing the t's remaining. This movie would involve most, if not all, of the original cast ('Indiana Jones' star John Rhys Davies, Broadway Tony winner Cleavant Derricks, and network star Sabrina Lloyd), of whom most are willing, wishing to be part of this project. Sources say tha most of the cast, original, subsequential and past guest stars, have made verbal commitments and pleas to participate, and most of the original production crew also anticipate the call back to work. The only thing left is the money committment from a studio. Once legal matters are resolved (with previous producers), we expect the earliest a movie could be made and completed would be sometime in 2002.

Despite having more lives than a cat, SLIDERS has continued to draw fans. Despite 2 cancellations (by FOX and Sci-Fi), numerous cast changes (at least three different working crews), and numerous changes in the story arc (4 from what we can figure out) websites dedicate to the show and the cause have been sprouting up faster than weeds in a front lawn. In surfing the net, we have discovered scores upon scores of web pages dedicated to the show and its cast. Not even the combined webpages of the popular 'Star Trek' and 'Star Wars' could rival this following. The loyal following is everywhere we search on the internet, and it's not just local but worldwide, with dedicated followings from England to Australia, Greece to Iceland, Japan to South America, makes me wonder how this show ever was cancelled?

We believe that, from our sources, if and when a movie is made, it would involve as much if not all of the original cast and follow a similar story arc that was common in the firsat 2 seasons. We understand that this is the plan being proposed to the studio's. This is the winning idea. And with the undying support of the fans, it can, and will be a success, movie after movie after movie!"

Enjoy!

Thanks for that Mordy.

It sounded very upbeat. I have been hearing similar things for over a year, but that is the most promising yet.
