[OB-Wan: After all, a black person on Buffy? Is the world ready for that?] [DarkCity545: exactly what did you mean by this?] Well, it's probably a topic for another thread, but the truth is, Buffy and Angel have never been very kind to minorities. There are no regular minority characters except Gunn. Let's take three examples. Kendra - good character, killed very quickly. The ideal Slayer made a good contrast to the rebellous Buffy, but only got a few episodes. Faith was a much better contrast, but I still miss the shy student, Kendra. Mr. Trick - great character! I really liked him and thought he had a lot of potential, but they killed him way too quickly. And never used him to full effect when he was around. Just rewatch "#037 Faith, Hope and Trick" and think about how good a big bad Trick would have made. Gunn - started as an interesting, edgy character but soon became a sidekick but not one with a mind for research, just street-smarts. He could have been good, but he's not very interesting since Angel adopted him. As Mr. Trick said, "I mean, admittedly, it's not a haven for the brothers, you know, strictly the Caucasian Persuasion here in the 'Dale."

[Spike's Mine: wot ep woz that from?] That's from #037 Faith, Hope and Trick, it's Mr. Trick's opening monologue. Trick: "Sunnydale. Town's got quaint. And the people?... He called me 'sir'. Don't you just miss that? I mean, admittedly, it's not a haven for the brothers, you know, strictly the Caucasian Persuasion here in the 'Dale. But, you know, you just gotta stand up and salute their death rate. I ran a statistical analysis, and hello darkness. It makes... D.C. look... like Mayberry, and ain't nobody saying boo about it. We could fit right in here. Have us some fun." --------------------- Just so we can stay on-topic I should mention that Mr. Trick was played by K. Todd Freeman, who had a role in "Cider House Rules" as Muddy, the Asst. Crew Boss. He also is credited with being in "Life in the Fast Lane" AKA "There's No Fish Food In Heaven". His role is listed as Stan/Suzie, so I guess we can assume that he either plays two roles or is a crossdresser.

This may be a repeat, but I just saw an advertisement for a "Star Trek" version of the game show, "The Weakest Link". The guests are William Shatner, Robert Picardo (Voyager's Doctor), Le Var Burton (ST:TNG Geordi), Denise Crosby (ST:TNG Tasha) and Armin Shimerman (ST: DS9 Quark), otherwise known as Buffy's own, Principal Snyder. If you have seen this show before and know the results, please post them, but remember to mark them with a spoiler tag. The only thing in the advertisement was Shatner kidding around about doing a love scene with the stone-faced hostess of the show.

Permit me to stretch the Crossover category for a moment. Let me recommend a new US TV show to you... It's about a teenager who suddenly finds out that they have superhuman powers. The youth attends High School in a town that is a hot bed of supernatural and paranormal activity, including monsters. Of course, the greatest evil is reserved for that in people's heart. This teenager uses his/her special abilities to protect the innocent, especially when family and friends are threatened. Along the way he/she also has a lot of growing up to do. The show is "Smallville", and the teenager is, of course, Clark Kent - Superboy, without the tights. Smallville suffered from a meteor shower 12 years ago that devestated parts of the town and changed a lot of lives. The rocks (Kryptonite) still pepper the town causing fantastic mutations, most of them in evil people it seems - The Hellmouth from Space! The parallels to Buffy are many. But it's a different story and it's well done. It's not as biting or funny as Buffy, in keeping with Superman's calm confidence, even as a youth. But it is good. The best part is that Lex Luthor is Clark Kent's best friend in High School. Knowing how the legend eventually plays out makes watching them in the early days enjoyable. And, of course, the young cast is imminently watchable, especially the incredible beauty they found to play Lana Lang. If it's not careful it could become a superhero's Dawson's Creek, but so far they have played it well, with smartly written characters and only the minimum required teenage angst. It's not Buffy, but it's got potential and it's worth a look. Enjoy the similarities and the differences in the stories of these young heroes. **** Hey, come on, it is a Crossover, I swear.

i'm not a big fan of smallville, except for lex. in the past lex luther has always been kind of a cheesy character, but in this series he actually has depth and is highly dinamic. i watch just for him.

TBS is replaying "As Good As It Gets". I just saw the scene where Julie "Darla" Benz plays the ditzy Receptionist. She's lucky in a way because lots of stations use Jack Nicholson's punch line, where he say's that he writes women by writing men without reason or responsibility. Yes, that's the deadly Darla, staring at Jack with big, empty cow-eyes.

Highly recommended. I just love Helen Hunt anyway. Nicholson is great in it. He plays an obsessive-compulsive, so some may be offended by exploiting a serious disease for comedy value, but mostly it's about a stubborn, self-obsessed crank who becomes involved in a couple of people's lives. Very funny with some sweet moments. After all, it won for Best Actress and Best Actor, as well as, being nominated for Best Film - so see it!. "Darla" has about 20 seconds in it (just to stay on topic).
