Totally agree, UM.
If they are doing the job properly, they shouldn't be exposing themselves to any possibility of outside influence.
Nor should they be attempting to exert influence (in the form of
PR gurus etc.). If there is one job in the country that should be based solely on facts and have nothing to do with opinion it is the job of policing.
