So in terms of what inspired what this appears to be the order:
Pirates of the Caribbean (the ride) --- On Stranger Tides (the novel) --- Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (the film)
The swashbuckler entertainment dialectic, if you will.
Thats Hollywood for you taking the ride and then seeing the book. They must have seen the book before they wrote the first film. Powers had zombie pirates 20 years before them.
Only two thing good about the new film i can get new paperback version and see Johnny Depp as Sparrow in a more fun film than the last two.
On Stranger Tides is much more fun, enjoyable than Anubis Gates that i think is the only overrated work by Powers.
