I must be the only one who haven't read the books, although I tried to listen the first book it just didn't catch me in same way as the televised series is doing.
At the moment this mini series is delivering higher marks than BBC's Merlin, and maybe the reason why it does that is in the execution, where the producer isn't directing the series towards the younger audience but actually uses the theme to draw in the adults.
Although I have said that the series and especially the second episode is great, I think that they could do a better story by delivering more complete narrative. What I mean is that even though I'm already hooked in, I find myself still wondering who's who and what the (expletive deleted) is going on. In that front, for example BBC's Merlin and AMC's Walking Dead are doing much better job.
So, if they are planning to draw in big numbers then they need to direct some of the editing to draw in the audience that has a shorter attention span, because I really doubt that GRRM did a that bad job with the books.
