okay- it's only been like 4 months since the last post on this ep, but since i'm slowly catching up, i'll try to kickstart again --

for the record - this is the only ep of season 5 that Spike isn't in at all, and i agree, he wouldn't fit well. Spike's biting wit and humour would not be very tactful in this episode.

i liked this episode, well done. Buffy's reactions - not calling 911 immediately and not doing CPR - you sit and tell the characters to do stuff, or ask 'why didn't you do CPR' - but in that situation - would you have been able to do everything right?

(i'll have to go watch again, b/c i don't remember everything that happened - when you watch 3 eps in one night and 2 eps every other night - they all start to run together - sorry -- i'll be back)

I watched thsi one again recently on the BBC, and I'm still very impressed by the quality of the episode.

The way they cut back at the beginning to some unseen dinner party, and then back to the body, then cut to Buffy reviving Joyce, all being well, and then back to the body. Really good writing and directing, and backed up by a fantastic performance by Sarah..

you're just a sucker for Sarah, aren't you?

no really - she did very well --- as did everyone else --

and really, me not being a fan of Anya, this is the one ep where she doesn't annoy me to death -- i actually kinda felt sorry for her, b/c she didn't understand what was going on, and no one wanted to explain it to her --

the scene in the dorm room w/ Willow, Tara, Xander, and Anya - very good scene ---

that was a good scene... with no-one knowing what to do...
Xander taking it out on the wall...
I did like Anya's speech about not understanding what was happening etc, that was possibly the best moment for Anya, other than as comic relief...

Everything was circular as well, Xander's parking was the first thing in that segment, and getting the ticket was the last..Willow in a flap over what to wear, Anya finding the blue top and putting it back in the drawer oblivious that it's what Willows looking for!

yeah - and ya know what - i didn't really notice that there was NO background music throughout the whole ep until i read it here - i noticed that it was missing when Anya and Xander were driving to get Wil and Tara - b/c it was just weird that there was no sound to go w/ the driving - but didn't really pick up that it was missing elsewhere -- probably b/c of the dialogue --

The fact that there was no background music in the eppy and a long period of silence in the eppy itself gave a lot to the atmosphere of the episode. True, music can be moving, but someitmes silence is so much more effective.

silence was used to very good effect especially in the car scene you mention. Created a really strong atmosphere, which was part of what made this eppy so good.

Ahhh....silence...not all can use it the way Joss has.

I mean, how good was The Gentlemen?

But back to The Body - I liked the way the silence built up the tension when the scooby gang got together at Willow & Tara's, but broke it with Xander punching the wall.

Just amazing writing.
