When was this. The Clans were always fighting. The conflicts were usually the result of English interference in the Scottish Monarchy or political system, but the loss of life was almost totally Scottish. The death toll on the battlefield at Culloden in 1746 is completely beyond belief. Most of the young men in the Highlands were killed. It would only compare to The First World War.

By the way, I believe that my ancestors would have been on the side of the Bonnie Prince Charlie. My wife's ancestors are most likely to have been with the Duke of Cumberland.

you've got me wrong david676, i was talking about the film "Highlander" and when it was set, at the time Duncan McLeod was born...that was many years before Culloden.

Yes, talk English Mudpack. What does IMOH mean as well?

Sorry, I don't know when 'Highlander' was set, there may have been a time when Clans were not constantly in skirmishes, and I didn't mean to start a clan-war here either. But I do think that some romantic idea of peace-loving people co-existing in a paradise on the hills and valleys of Scotland, is probably not the way that it was.

Thumbs up

definitely the best of the Highlander films -- especially if you've seen the Director's Cut that puts back all the scenes that help the movie make sense --- (i hate it when they think they have to cut stuff for the states - the ppl here are always that ridiculous)

and one of the greatest things about this movie -it's not based on anything - it was Widen's graduate 'thesis'-like project at UCLA (read that somewhere) -- it's all his baby!

i think that we do get a better deal here in the Uk with the cuts of a few films, the Highlander i've seen any/every time is what u consider the directors cut...

I totally agree about this one being the best of the lot...

yeah -they don't seem to cut stuff in Europe --- don't really understand why it was cut for the US - they say time and crap like that -- but i think that they just like to annoy us --- it's annoying!! (that was redundant) --

and yes - HL1 is the best -- but i'm a Connor fan - so, anytime Connor is there - all's well --

well - the RV of HII -- wasn't released to the theatres - it was released a few years ago - i think w/ the 10th anniv stuff - or maybe just b4 -- not like the 1st movie -- initially there was just the one cut of HLII -- the 'guys' went back later and fixed it - probably after all the hullaballoo about the crappy Zeist thing and the 'it's not true to the orig story' stuff ---
