Re: Favourite Discworld characters? Without a doubt, the Luggage. The image conjured towards the end of The Color Of Magic of the Luggage sailing over the Rim, covered with seaweed and hundreds of tiny legs pumping, makes me laugh hysterically without fail.

Re: Favourite Discworld characters? Call me plain and cheesy, but Rincewind's pessimistic, feebly yet so charming humor takes the cake over just about any other character I've witnessed in reading the Discworld series. Of course, that doesn't mean the rest of them aren't well thought-out (the Librarian, Death, Twoflower and the witches to name a few); they all had their moments, but I felt Rincewind was the most consistent. Also, I know this doesn't qualify for a character, but T.P. himself as the narrator is great too, and would perhaps be the wittiest and most interesting thing about Discworld books if we were to expand beyond the "favorite character" discussion.

Re: Favourite Discworld characters? Wow, this is going to be pretty tough... Having to pick just a handful of favourite characters out of so many great ones? I'll give it a go. First up, it would have to be Vimes, and all of the Watch would come next (how can I pick just one or two?). Death would be right up there, as would the Librarian. ![]()

Re: Favourite Discworld characters? For now, my fav are: 1. Vetinari. I always love intelligent leader characters in SF/F genre fictions. I like the I-know-that-you-know dialogs between Vetinari and Vimes. Recently I read Going Postal, and Moist has the similar I-know-you-know dialogs with Vetinari. After read Night Watch, I sympathize with Vetinari even more, knowing his young life as the Assassin Guild's member. 2. Nanny Ogg. What a witch! She is the first witch character that I knew that has a lot of husbands and children. IMHO, this carefree witch with dirty thoughts is better than Weatherwax in witchcraft.
