Re: Favourite Discworld characters?

hi, am a newby... but a huge TP fan and want to add my favs to your list!

top for me is Rinsewind - very funny, you have to sympathise with him!
Nanny Ogg is my second - she reminds me of my Granny! honestly... she was great!
and number 3, Sam Vimes - grew to like him more and more in Night Watch and Thud.

but you will agree with me, there are loads of fantastic charactors in the Discworld - they're like the presents in a game of pass the parcel - you just keep peeling off the layers.

keep em comin TP!

3)Carrot
4) Granny Weatherwax

6) Death
7) Igor (any one)
8) Nobby
9) Cheery (Cheri) Littlebottom
10) Vetinari

The thing with COM is it was his 1st full blown Discword book, where he took the P or extracted the urine out of the fantasy genre, which being a fantasy reader mainly I find funny. What did it for me was the passage where he mentions about the 2 unsavoury rouges walking up the road(you would have to have read "Fritz Leibers" Fafhrd & the Grey Mouser books to get it)as Pterry says himself if he was writing COM now it would be completely different,it is still one of my favorite books as LF

Re: Favourite Discworld characters?

I've only just started out in Discworld, so I haven't met many characters. But I do love Rincewind (yet I can't help but miss out that stupid letter and keep calling him RICEwind!)

And, of course, you gotta love Death. Keeps popping up and trying to take Rincewind off. Hehe.

I will no doubt add to this when I read more of the Discworld novels!

Re: Favourite Discworld characters?

Nobby Nobs hands down! XD

I smile everytime he is mentioned and almost died of laughter when i saw him dressed as 'betty' in the art of discworld!

Also Vetinari and Vimes. For obvious reasons and some subtle ones.

Dibbler. nuff sed.

I'm sure the grim squeaker gets a lot of clientele sent his way by Greebo

Re: Favourite Discworld characters?

I think the grim squeaker will find his own clientele, 'cos I don't think Greebo would pay attention if there any difference between a common squeaker and the grim one

Re: Favourite Discworld characters?

You mean we've actually got to chose! They're all good.
I'll try to make a shor list.

Susan, Death, Magrat, Lu-Tze (rather obvious consitering i'm the Sweeper), Vimes, Vetinary, Rincewind, The Librarian, Gasbode, Death of Rats, oh and I almost forgot Albert. I think I'll stop there, but I haven't thought of everyone. I like the witches quite a lot, but not as much as some on this list.

Can't say really. Rincewind has a special place because he's the first one I read about. Than there are Ridcully, Vimes, Vetinari, Death, Nobby, Granny, Cohen...don't know.

Re: Favourite Discworld characters?

I really like the werewolf Coporal Aguina (Please excuse the spelling) there is a subtle bit in the new book that had me fall of my seat laughing.

I like the Partican, always so far ahead of everyone else! The Librarian is one of my favourites as my brother was a librarian some time ago. Ah the slaggings he used to get, I also love the way he can say anything with an oook!

Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax, for the wizards staff has a nob on the end and Eadolgy*.

Death is an old favorite and Nobby, well what can one say!

Cut me own throat Dibbler I love too.
