Re: Favourite Discworld characters? Favourites for me are: Vimes: You have to love a man who acts like Columbo and yet has the fire and spark to carry through on any threats. I loved how he was protrayed in Night Watch, I think that book did a great service to Pratchett's writing skills. I like Rincewince, it's probably the underdog nature that makes me like him so. Poor guy gets picked on too much. Death is cool, Granny Weatherwax is brilliant and there's probably half a dozen I'm leaving out at the moment because they're just all wonderful.

Re: Favourite Discworld characters? I really think Rincewind is a great fantasy creation, I also like Death. I really loved the Cohen and his barbarian pals in Interesting Times as well (one of the stronger Discworld novels IMHO)

. Vetinari is the greatest leader--be it blue suit politician or dictator--who could ever be in history or in Terry Pratchett's dreams. Selfish--hmph!Corrupt? Genius con-man. Cruel? Think about it--when? Vulnerable? He only seems so because he carries that damned rat around. Remember what Vetinari did in The Truth? He was trained as an assassin. Favorite Characters: Vetinari-well? Vimes-so un-classy he's classy Lady Sybill-what a lady! Angua-what a gal! Nobby-what a...Nobby...? The Silver Horde-"hur hur hur!" Detritus-"Now we sing dis stupid song," Susan-Imagine me in the front row as Rincewind with potatoes on his mind Igor-"Yeth?" "How'd you do that?" "It'th a gift." Buggy Swires-*chuckle* just before I'm kicked in the fruits and veg. and say,"I'm all for equal heights!" DEATH-one day I shall have curry with him... Ridcully- Dim but not stupid, I can imagine him in a general's uniform punctuating his sentences with many a "wot." Stanley-pin-head turned stamp freak Mr. Tiddles-what I fear my cat is growing into ~Someone Last edited by DylanSomething : 3rd April 2005 at 05:09 PM. | |

Re: Favourite Discworld characters? I love Rincewind, his pattern of thought is just too amusing. Sorry all but anything with the witches just makes me snore and I barely got through the last of their books that I read.

Re: Favourite Discworld characters? A few weeks ago I would have told you Sir Samuel Vimes, without a dought. But I’v been re reading the witches series, and just love Granny Weatherwax as I remember I did when I first read the books. T.P. is just a master of characters, someone name one which they don’t, deep down, like. ![]()

Re: Favourite Discworld characters? I can't pick one - too many of them are good, and I don't work on the basis of "favourite" to a great deal, because it's often subject to change, no matter the subject matter. However... Honourable mentions go to: Vimes, from Feet Of Clay onwards at any rate. Jingo and Night Watch are the two where he really comes into his own. I'd take the Death of Rats over Death any day. Death is amusing, I'll grant, but there's just something about seeing the word SQUEAK. The Dibblers in all their many nationalised formats. Lu-Tze. If only for Rule One. "Do not act incautiously when facing small unarmed wrinkly old men!" Om, in Small Gods. The way his attitude changes over the course of the book is a joy to see, and it's a superb take on religion. The wizards of Unseen University, but only when you have some of them in a group. A personal preference for the Senior Wrangler, because I can often be pedantic. The Duck Man. "What duck?" There's so many to choose from, though, that I can't say I have a favourite.
