According to the writers of the show, SG1 can overcome any enemy with sheer initiative, sarcastic humour and a few bullets.
Well, on all the major occassions I can think of when Earth itself was under direct attack, SG-1 needed external help: Bra'tac & team (Apophis), alternate themselves & Asgard (Apophis), Tok'ra (Reetou).

On another they would have failed eventually (Sokar), and another (Goa'uld legal attack) they only succeded due to internal strife of the opposition.

As for on other planets, yeah, they seem to be very variable in sometime invulnerability, in others, easily trapped!
