I notice from a title search that Budge did a translation of the Book of the Dead - is he the one that:

a) Daniel asks why people use (in the film) as he re-translates "doorway to heaven" to "stargate"
b) is famously misquoted with reference to the name of the Sphinx by many conspiracy theorists and others

hi p'Teppic,
i'm not quite sure which one it is, but i think it might be the one where daniel asks why people use doorway to heaven to stargate, but as i said i'm not sure. Kelsi might know.

Erm...You kinda lost me there...

But still, to confuse matters, I think he may b mentioned again in Seth, when SG-1 are researching him on the comp (supposedly on the net)... but I'm not sure.

P'teppic, what do you mean by b)? Why can't he be both?

Kelsi,

I wasn't meaning to say was he one or the other; just clarify if that is one of his notable achievements?

Budge

Yeah, Budge is the one in the movie that Jackson says the line about. "I don't know why they keep reprinting his books." But he does have the most books out there to read about Egyptian myths and stuff and is the most well known and the most disputed. That's why they used him as the bad guy who Jackson must prove wrong. I do believe they have made references to him in an episode or 2, but I couldn't tell you which ones. I just know he's a name that most people know and can relate too concerning anything Egyptian.

I do in fact own many of his books, and the Book of the Dead. I found that at a Waldenbooks in the mall. It's odd the places you find things. I found many of my books in used book stores, and got them for very cheap. Also, several had many out of print books and stuff I couldn't find anywhere else. I also went to the college bookstore, they had quite a collection, it's full price but they had a good selection. I live near Seattle so we have 2 major colleges with bookstores nearby. I haven't bought any books in a long time but that's where I'd start if you're looking for books on the subject.

I used a section of hieroglyphs from the Book of the Dead as a wallpaper on my website for Gatecon 2001. It turned out pretty good. I have read so many books on ancient Egypt that it started to get confusing. It seems everyone has their own ideas and no one can decide who's right. So, I got as many opinions as I could and tried to make a decisive listing of gods and kings and bloodlines. I saw a special on TV recently about Nefertiti. They're getting permission to dig in Egypt to find her tomb. No one has been aloud to dig for years, so it's a big deal. Maybe they'll find something and have proof of what happened during her reign. I do love the mythology and history of Egypt, I'm sure that's what drew me into the movie and now the series so much.

It's cool to have knowlegable people to talk to about it too. Well, later, SS
