Yes, it can get quite hot in the summer. The problem is that Ottawa is in a valley and we tend to get humid weather both in the summer where we see temperatures of 25+ with a humidex of 35 and in the winter where it can sometimes feel colder than it actually is. Only Ulan-Bator is a colder capital (apparently).

Last winter we got 4 metres of snow. You couldn't see my house from the street. I had major damages inside from water infiltration caused by ice and snow backup on my roof (and not to mention the previous owners did a crappy roofing job). Had my kitchen and living room and entire roof down to the ceiling completely ripped out and put back in. Took about 6 months to finish.

If you are ever back in Ottawa, let me know.

P.S. I hate poridge!

Re: All about us.

That's awful, all that damage to your house, TK. And here's me, wishing to return to the northern hemisphere!
At the moment I am getting ready to hibernate, now that summer is almost upon us.

PS. I love porridge!

Re: All about us.

Thanks Rosemary and thank goodness for insurance. It was about $30K in damages. The only part they did not cover was the replacement of the roof.

Other than that, I love winter.

Re: All about us.

Name: Marijn (it's a dutch name..and it means Goddes of the Sea..I know it's weird!) My father calls me Michella just like my other Italian family. It's my 'other' name.
Age: 16
Location: The Netherlands, Province: Utrecht
Hobbies: clubbing with friends, hanging out with friends, listen to music every day, dancing, reading Stravaganza my favourite books, laugh a lot!
Intrests: talking, laughing, sleeping , having a lot of fun with my friends, Music: John Legend, Kanye West, M.I.A., Santogold, T.I., T-Pain and I can go forever on this! Having long phone-calls, shower a lot, love to travel, going on adventure
Dislikes: People who say that it's cool when youre drinking and smoking when youre 13. People who don't just say what they want to say. The cold , waking up before my alarm should do that job...
Notes: Euhm I just have to say that I totally adore the Stravaganza books! If you want to read a great fantasy book, read Stravaganza! Normally i'm not that fantasy-like (like Harry Potter I just can't get myself to read it any further) but Stravaganza is just great!
And euhm..I live in Holland. My father is Italian, my mother is Dutch. My familly lives in Belogna (do you spell it like that?) but I don't speak Italian (only if you count in 'Ciao' :P ) Euhm, i'm 1.72 meters tall, good in languages but bad in math and sience. I like mix drinks and partying. In Holland you can drink when youre 16 or older. When youre 18 you can drink heavy alchohol drinks. (err you say it like that?) By the way: Just wanted to apologize for any spelling mistakes,
blog: I don't blog. But like to read 'em :P

Re: All about us.

Name: Mike
Age:58
Location: Nashville (Tennessee, you know, the real one......)
Hobbies: Reading (somewhat eclectic) , writing, computer rpgs (pc mostly, only console I have is a Playstation 2), informal target shooting (air guns now, physical condition and income moved me away from powder burners), building and painting metal miniatures (mostly the 25mm ones, though they are now often called "heroic 25mm scale" which means they’re actually bigger)
Other web-sights: shooting and air gun sights
Food likes: Cola, tea, some herb teas, chocolate (of course), beef (yes I know it’s not pc but...oh well), some other red meats, salads, broccoli, apples, pineapples.......tex/mex foods.......and Dr. Pepper!
Other more General Likes: Freedom, Animals cats, dogs, horses, .......books, interesting discussions.....reading in a secluded corner on a rainy day, possibly with a nice bag of apple chips and a glass of iced tea.
Interests: Current events, history, fiction of some types.... GOOD epic fantasy, (high or low), sci/fi, historical fiction (except the romantic type), good writers in the sub-genres of fantasy (H. P. Lovecraft’s horror...etc.) , and yes...hoping no one is offended, Christian Literature (including Apologetics and Theology)......Then there’s Conan, The Eternal Champion, Paksenarrion Dorthansdotter, Sam, Frodo, Bilbo, Corwin of Amber, Waylander the Assassin and Druss the Legend, Aragorn, Elwin Ransom, and so many others!
When I was younger (back in the dark ages) I would have to include, John Carter of Mars, and a lot of his contemporaries including some comic book heros...primarily Captain America, Iron Man, and the Avengers, but I was reading and collecting during what is now called the "Silver age of comics", so I pulled out in the ‘80s
Dislikes: Humm.........well, not too many things. Good ideas that get ruined by being turned into bad movies or books, The habit networks have of cancelling the few good TV programs that swim up out of the muck (like Fire Fly for example).....poor sequels to good novels....you get the idea.
Closing Notes: Hope we can talk books and get to know one another here. I find (fearfully) that readers are becoming "fewer" I hope it’s not the case, but it seems so. We tried to start a novel discussion group here (I’m not sure if the books were novel or the group of us was) but only three of us really showed an interest...scary. I am of course willing to go into more details about myself and what I think on things (aren’t we all?) But I will close this off for now unless queried about my thoughts lest I drive you all away. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Re: All about us.

I'm just a little guy who tinkers around my computer. Some would say I'm smart though I hate it when people say that. There are a number of movies like Marvel movies, Star Trek, Star Wars, and Harry Potter. There are a few others. I don't usaully talk about what I do on the computer since it's a bit complicated for most people I know. I do read a fair amount too. I do like chess. I have beat the computer in the eighth level out ten skill levels. I don't think I'm that great though. What do I eat? Well I don't care. I'd king sized candy bars all day long if that's all there was. Some day I might too. With coffee of course containing about ten spoonfulls of sugar. I tried twenty spoonfulls and I had to get spoon to eat the sugar off the bottom. It was good though. White sugar and brown sugar are really good. No! I didn't say that I've tried plane sugar.

I do play games sometimes, but I'm too busy most of time on some fairly complicated creations that may never turn out.
