i saw that movie, earthquake in new york or something like that...and they had one last week, just a litte one

man dark side danny...he was grade a spooky. almost a james bond caliber villian...you know they better hope he never gets goaulded cause earth is toast if he does...
i need to watch it again to catch all danny's smart @$$ remarks at the beginning.
the image if his tossing jack across the room...or lording over a begging apophis...now what was that is the season 6 thread about danny killing a-man?
i've always said jr bourne does a good psycho...but so does ms.
you know, if they ever do a mirror universe eps...like in trek, we'd have evil danny hooking up with evil marty and...what else, heroic maybourne?

Releasing Burdens

Well, not horribly impressed by AP, but, well, sometimes when everyone you know is saying how great it was, you expect it to knock your socks off. I rather wish they had stayed on Abydos, since there is a familiarity with that location. If it had to be a dream/illision, then let's go all the way and do some striking surreal images right on the planet.

And is anyone else tired of infirmary scenes?

But I agree about Daniel in the sunlight from the window - can't complain about that. Actors are always great, as are the special effects: loved the windstorm and evil Danny with his special command center and chair - better than Captain Kirk's and Picard's put together.

I have a question: Who else told Daniel he must "release his burden" before he can find his own way again? Was is Sha're? Just curious. There have been so many epsiodes, I hope I am not the only one who gets confused.

Humbly opinionated,
Orange

i seem to remember something like that but i don't know if it was shau'ri or the monk from maternal instinct.

did anyone else interpret the last words of the boy...let's see if i can get them close to right, to win you must deny the battle...i'm thinking the boy is telling them there's no way earth can take on the goa'uld and win...which to me suggests the only way they can win is to saboutage the snakes...you know sorta like teal'c did with apophis and heru'ur in secrets...keep them fighting each other until they kill each other off.

then again i may be sleep deprived...but some of his other phrases made sense too. like the one in the beginning, a candle is only as strong as its wick or something like that. it suggests to me that a command is only as good as its leader.

and then when he was talking to danny. the whole if the instrument is bad then the music will be too(can't remember it exactly) which was his way of saying if he remembers it will ruin him. then daniel replying but music doesn't play the composer, meaning memories don't make the person...and the kid said, not this time or something like it which meant whoever has the memories will go bad...at least in my warped little head.
any ideas?

Denying the Battle

You know, the image that kept coming to me during AP was of Yoda warning Luke about strong emotions and Luke telling Vadar to let go of his hate. Could it be along the same lines as "Do not control, be IN control" or "Surrender is the only path"? The idea that if your enemy engages your "dark side", then you have already lost? Just wondering, because the more I think about it, the more I realize Robert Cooper didn't really give us enough information to figure out what the H-kid was talking about when he said the only way to win the battle [against the desires of the subconscious] was to deny the battle.

I gathered that Daniel was the instrument, sadly out of tune I take it. Daniel seemed to be suggesting that we *do* have some control over our destiny and our actions, or the music, if you will.

Like I mentioned, very hard to figure on limited info.
And what "new path" will Daniel chose?

Is it really sad if you're a JR/Martouf fan? And where does the Earthquake come in?!

well it's the earthquake that starts the whole thing. jrb and renee and others are in a subway car when it hits and there's that whole survival bit...basically it's the typical disaster movie scenario where the disaster hits then you get to see how it and events created by it effects the stars.
because really...well up until the point where he dies, marty is so darned charming you don't know for sure if he's psycho.

you know i just thought of somehting. the kids name was shifu, which daniel translated to mean 'light' and well...it as 'the light' that brought out danny's dark side?
i'm getting a feeling either the writer put a lot of work into double meanings and symbolology or there were a heck of a lot of coinciences in this eps.

By saying "The only way to win the battle is to deny the battle," the kid is basically saying "if you go and take these hidden memories out of my head, you'll be very sorry!" because it would result in what Daniel went through in his "dream". The subconcious memories would override any conscious decisions and would ultimately control him, pretty much the same as a Goa'uld would control its host.

Daniel's statement that the "music doesn't play the musician" was proven false in the dream, because the memories being the music ultimately "played" him, and made him into something he would never consciously become.

Loved that whole discussion!

Remember that song? ["Do you remember the times of your life?" ]

Anyway, Debra, you got me thinking again - I see what you're saying about the memories. Oh boy I wonder where this is going to lead in the show...

Thanks for the discussion, too.
