Red face Valentines day (cynical version)

so here be the time of year when card companys decide to cash in on a saints day when most people arent even christians anymore,
having to spend double of what you usually pay on cards/flowers
but from my point of view if you need to be told when to do something nice for your partner then hell your relationships in trouble anyway

But me being the cynical person I am...I don't really beleive in love anyway its just fear of being/dying alone...and I bought myself a dvd instead for valentines

hope that cheered you all up
*smirk*
happy valentines day
*sniggers*

Re: Valentines day (cynical version)

That's not cynical, that's logical! (Love is also schizophrenic, because this "fear of dying alone" that makes us grasp desperately for this artificial "love" sensation, well, it's also stupid because one of you is gonna die first anyway (unless it's some romantic double suicide! ) so it's also self-delusion etc...whatever I'm trying to say, I'm sure you understand...blblblblbl....everything ends in pain & despair! So rejoice!)

Happy Valentine's Day, Amidala!

Re: Valentines day (cynical version)

Here you go, a Valentine's anthem for the cynical:

Queensryche - I Don't Believe In Love

I awoke on impact
Under surveillance from the camera eye
Searching high and low
The criminal mind found at the scene of the crime
Handcuffed and blind, I didn't do it
She said she loved me
I guess I never knew
But do we ever, ever really know?
She said she'd meet me on the other side
But I knew right then, I'd never find her

I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel

No more nightmares, I've seen them all
From the day I was born, they've haunted my every move
Every open hand's there to push and shove
No time for love it doesn't matter
She made a difference
I guess she had a way
Of making every night seem bright as day
Now I walk in shadows, never see the light
She must have lied 'cause she never said goodbye

I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
I'll just pretend she never was real
I don't believe in lovev I need to forget her face, I see it still
I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel

No chance for contact
There's no raison d'etre
My only hope is one day I'll forget
The pain of knowing what can never be
With or without love it's all the same to me

I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
I'll just pretend she never was real
I don't believe in love
I need to forget her face, I see it still
I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel

Hmm....coulda been a bit more cynical, really...great tune, though, if you get to hear it!!!

Re: Valentines day (cynical version)

I had myself a vasectomy today - Friday 13th - the day before Valentine's Day. Darn good present to myself, if you ask me.

Brian, you have my respect. I'm far too much of a coward to go there.

Knivesout - thanks for reminding me of "Operation: Mindcrime". Haven't listened to it it ages - have to dig the tape out and have a listen. It's really a great collection of songs.

Brian...ouch.

Amidala...Valentine's Day is, without doubt, my least favorite holiday. I agree that if you only do something nice for the one you love one day out of the year, just because you think you have to, the relationship needs working on - big time.

Re: Valentines day (cynical version)

Walking is fine, actually - just a bit sore. But I don't think I'll be doing anything sexy on Valentine's Day. That could be like rubbing salt into the wound.

And with 2 kids present and a third imminent, bravery has nothing to do with it - just plain necessity!

Re: Valentines day (cynical version)

Ouch, I'm crossing my legs, Brian!

........

I was a child
who wanted love that was wild
though tight as slow motion
but crazed with devotion

insane with devotion
a whole other notion
I was fourteen and a half
and it wasn't no laugh

Love comes in spurts (oh no it hurts)
Love comes in spurts (it hurts)
Love comes in spurts (oh no, cuz)
Love comes in spurts (it always hurts)

I just can't get wise
to those tragical lies
though I now know the facts
they still cut like an axe

cuz love comes in spurts
in dangerous flirts
and it murders your heart
they didn't tell you that part

Love comes in spurts
Love comes in spurts
Love comes in spurts
Love comes in spurts

Love comes in spurts
Love comes in spurts
Love comes in spurts
Love comes in spurts

(..."Love Comes In Spurts", performed by Richard Hell & the Voidoids, also by the Heartbreakers)

Re: Valentines day (cynical version)

Just wandered out to the balcony for a break - saw all the young things decked out and brandishing sundry Valentines Day merchandise - bah, spare me these protestations and promenades of juvenile infatuation.

I am now officially a curmudgeon.

Re: Valentines day (cynical version)

I've never been much of a Valentine's Day fan. It seems rather pointless to me.

Brian - that's gotta hurt! I hope you have a swift recovery.

You certainly gained my admiration...lol.

Don't have any kids as of yet so will hold off on the op for the foreseeable future.

Hope it wasn;t too traumatic and they do knock you off for the operation don't they?
