[justify]I haven't read this series but it looks like I should go ahead and search them out. I've read some of her stuff before and I like it so I will probably keep my eye out this weekend while I'm at the library.[/justify]

Ursula K. Le Guin's popular 'Earthsea' novels to hit the small screen.

SCI FI Channel has just announced the production start on a miniseries based on Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea novels.

Produced by Hallmark Entertainment in association with Bender-Brown Productions, the four-hour miniseries will begin principle photography this spring in New Zealand.

Adapted from novelist Ursula K. Le Guin's "Earthsea" book series, Earthsea is written by Gavin Scott (The Mists of Avalon) with Robert Halmi, Sr. (Dreamkeeper, Merlin), Lawrence Bender (Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction) and Kevin Brown (Roswell) executive producing.

Earthsea is slated to debut on SCI FI in December 2004.

Earthsea follows the tale of a reckless youth destined to become the greatest sorcerer that the mystical land of Earthsea has ever known. When the young wizard Ged discovers that he possesses infinite magical powers, he seeks to master the ancient arts. As he journeys to manhood, he will combat dragons, fall in love, cross death's threshold, and ultimately wield the power to reunite a kingdom.

Earthsea is an adaptation of the first two of Le Guin's famed Earthsea trilogy novels: A Wizard of Earthsea and The Tombs of Atuan. Le Guin has won five Hugo awards and five Nebula awards. She has also earned a National Book Award, and been named a finalist for the American Book Award numerous times.

In recent months, the SciFi Channel has made a number of deals for "big event" projects ... following on from their work with Taken, Dune and the new Galactica et al. Most recently, Scorcese joined the list, which includes fellow Hollywood types Bryan Singer, Dean Devlin and Gale Anne Hurd, to produce a number of the miniseries.

SCI FI is also teaming up again with Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks for a new project in 2005 ... keep tuned to the 'Nest for more details.

Wow, thats cool!! I hope that they do the books justice. So do you know if they're only going to be covering first there books in the series or all four. I always see reference to the earthsea "Earthsea Trilogy" even there's a fourth book. I mean you could end it on the third but really the fourth book give a nice closure to everything. Either way I'll be checking out Sci-fi. And for for those of you who don't get the channel, if it's any consolation, I'm sure the books will be better.

The Earthsea books are actually very touching, and deftly wrote. I highly recommend them.

Usula Le Guin is by far my favourite author and the Earthsea Quartet has always inspired my imagination. A small screen production? I'm not sure I want to see it, everything is perfect in my head and I'm not sure I want to spoil it. Especially as I have watched the Mists of Avalon, which disapointed as it cut all the good bits. Alhtough that was partly my fault as I watched it while reading the book. I hope it will be a true adaptation and if it gets good reviews I will check it out .

Didn't they do earthsea before, but as a cartoon? I must say, the thought of television production companies getting their hands on one of the finest fantasy series ever written sends shudders of distress down my spine.
