Stargate movie sequel in the works
MGM announces sequel to 1994 sci-fi hit
October 25, 2000

MGM announced today that it has fast-tracked a sequel to the 1994 sci-fi hit "Stargate," though there is no word yet if the film will follow the story of the spin-off television series starring Richard Dean Anderson.

MGM had previously declined sequels to the film in order to create the television series "Stargate SG-1" (now in its fourth season on Showtime, and airing in syndication around the country and abroad).

The film will hit theaters no sooner than 2002. The studio also announced a film based on the never-say-die anthology series "The Outer Limits," a new film in the "Pink Panther" franchise, and more.

The original "Stargate" was written and directed by Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, and starred Kurt Russell as Colonel Jack O'Neil and James Spader as Dr. Daniel Jackson. While Devlin and Emmerich intended on the movie spawning a trilogy, MGM opted for the television series instead.

Yeah i hope for the sequel they have the actors and actoresses (spelling?) from the tv series. If they did not have the actors from the tv series i feel that it would not be any good. Well thats what i reckon any way.

That is brilliant news!!!! and an outer limits film is pretty cool as well.

Lots of people are going to be happy. Needs to have SG-1 in it though.

Umm i already did this i think. I was not sure were this went so i put it both catergories. Well any way The sequel MUST have the sg-1 characters. It wouldnt be a stargate sequel now if it did not have the sg-1 characters.

Of course it will have RDA and AT etc, afterall thay probably wouldn't allow it with KR and JS. for some reason......
Personally i would like to see Kurt and James into the Staraget sequel!

It would only be logical,IMO, to base it on the series rather than the original movie and used the current series actors since the series continues from the movies and the characters are now played by RDA and MS.

Just for the record i use to have a friend called 'IMO' true

The movie would have to be a mission to Chulak, with a Tok'ra here and there.

IMO = In My Opinion

Which, of course, is the only valid opinion

I really enjoyed the Stargate movie and the TV series but I am a little tired of Earth always winning. Goa'uld are more advanced than us jet Tauri still prevails.
I wish that in the new movie Earth is attacked by the Goa'uld ,and not entirely but somewhat destroyed.
And then somehow we find some advanced weapon and kick some Goa'uld behind.
Also I think the new movie should follow the SG-1 TV series
and not the 1994 Stargate movie, this way the story will continue ,and who nows maybe they will decide to make another movies after this one "Stargate The Return"
