As Sean has indicated with his message, there is a great deal of quality material available out there to do whith Stargate.
There are HUGE numbers of Stargate based sites, from the one page link site to the real deal 100MB+ site.

These sites range from Fan Fiction to pure informational with a spectrum of others in-between. The content is more often than not of a very high standard, with the creator(s) clearly spending huge amounts of time and effort, developing and building what is in some cases a work of art, and in 99.99% of cases for absolutley no finincal gain.

Some of these sites are obviously better than others, but there are absolute gems out there, well designed and though out, and absolutley brimming with goodies.

WHY???? what is it about Stargate the Movie and SG-1 that just seems to capture the imagination of, both the creators of these sites and those that flock to view their creations?

WHY are we drawn to the STARGATE phenomenon More to the point why are you here now on Talkstargate reading this?

Is it the Technology and science , the Alien cultures, the mythology of the ancient Egyptians, the Vikings, The Gods, the very clever link to real Earth cultures and our past. How much of it is based in fact, and how much is pure fiction, and where are the grey areas.

That's what this Form is about...

Is that true?
Did the Egyptians really do that?

thank you, that sums it up perfectly. It is something i really want to read more about is the actual egyption history. I loved acient Greek histroy which I did at school and going to move to egyption soon when i get a chance. Then i'll come back here and post like crazy!

The writers seem to do quite a bit of research and pull out all sorts of, sometimes obscure, information. In some cases I've really had to search to find the information about the specific dieties that are used, historical references, and such. Sometimes the info just appears on another show like with FIAD and the funeral ceremony. That was all confirmed by a recent series called "Mummies" on either Discovery or The Learning Channel (although I think is was Discovery because of those silly commercials they have).
But it is interesting to see that they are following as close as they can and it gives me a small edge on my husband who is a history person.

Hmmm. I checked out some reviews of the books found on Amazon.Com about archaeology by Michael Shanks. I think, unless he is one really busy and industrious guy, that there are two Michael Shankses... one a Canadian actor and another a professor at Stanford.

He is one of the world's foremost archaeological thinkers, and author of many works including Experiencing the Past, Classical Archaeology of Greece (1996), and Art and the Greek City State (1999)." No, I don't think so. I'm afraid you have the wrong person in mind. Michael Shanks, the actor is not a professor of Archaeology in real life. He's an actor! Nice try though.

It would have been a great choice to have a real professor play a professor on television. However, I don't think they teach acting while working on a doctorate!
