I agree. I think The Nox was one of the better episodes from the first season. It seemed to be well thought out and plotted. The characters were all likeable and their logic made sense. Not to mention that we got to see some of Jack's skills put to use.
I only have one complaint and that was the way that Carter broke cover when Jack was shot. I could see Daniel doing it. He was a civilian after all, but Carter is supposed to be trained military. I realize that she had to 'die' along with Jack and Daniel, but it still rankled me that they allowed her to do that.

Cheers,

YES!!! Sam would never do that, she is supposed to be a trained professional. I don't even think Daniel would be *that* stupid...then again *S*. But overall Sam's character was really weird in the first season. She got a bit better in season two thank god. I really hated that line in COTG the reproductive organs on the outside bla bla bla. No woman would say that, soooooo ridiculous.

I dunno about the arguement over Sam breaking cover. I havent seen this ep,like Sean I have seen half of season 2,and all of season 3 and 4(just the ones aired on Showtime upto this point of course) and the first three eps of season 1.
Sam might be in the military and flown in combat, but ground combat follows different rules. If you are not an Army Infantryman or member of spec ops in another branch of service, like Jack, then you would not get that sort of training for the proper reflexes in a firefight. Not even in basic training in the Air Force would an Officer recieve that training (I know being a Air Force cadet at one time). Therefore without that training someone might instinctively jump up during a battle when they would be better remaining in cover.

I think I have to disagree a bit. Even though officer basic training isn't as intensive as enlisted, they still have to do combat sims. And they did make mention of her hand to hand training in Emancipation. Also it's my understanding that pilots go through survival training in case they are ever downed. Her father being military, I would also have to say that she would have picked up some stuff as a child.
None of this, though, accounts for human nature. <G>

Funny how we all seem to think alike. I also remember seeing that episode, i had waited ages for it as i missed it on first showing and a friend in Australia actually sent it to me!
It was weird that Sam jumped up but I think as Mythinglink suggested, she was so shocked to see Jack and Daniel shot that she stood up in, well, shock.

I can see her freezing, not capable to move for a bit after seeing Jack getting shot. But to actually stand up, practically waving to Apophis "hey, here I am, kill me!" Nah...that's not the Sam I know

Maybe she was holding back secret feelings for Jack and seeing him die was enough for her to "not carry on" HAHA maybe not

Myth, you raised a good counterpoint by mentioning the fact that Sam at some point had hand to hand training as mentioned in CotG. This indeed would imply that at some point she recieved combat training. However combat training (even hand to hand is not normal for Air Force Officers even pilots (now I speak from my experience of knowing what my Father did,he was a navigator in the Air Commandos Special Operations Group). He did recieve survival training but as a pilot the train that he recieved was in Air combat in which it is hard to jump up in a cockpit anyways.
The strange thing about Sam and the fact she had received combat training is that she is an Astrophysicist (I mean i knew fights for grants among scientist was cut-throat but I did know that was literal *grin*)

All arguements aside, though, I think Myth has convinced me of the illogic of Sams jump.

And another one bites the dust.
Having been involved with the military for, oh say the past 25 years or so, I tend to be rather opinionated on the subject. <G>
