Stargate - the movie The Stargate film is how it all began and for many their first glimpse into the Stargate Universe. Discuss the film in this forum as well as the possibility of any future Stargate or Stargate SG-1 motion picture.

Hammer I really liked the Stargate movie. That's what drew my attention to the series. It had great special effects, a pretty good storyline, great character interaction and some superb action scenes! But as much as I loved the movie, the series prevails. The character of Jack is SO much better, Daniel has those little developed little quirks that make him more interesting (and less of a "geek") and the addition of Sam and Teal'c made an excellent contribution. Then there's the fact that the series not only was a "spin-off" of the movie, but it developed the ideas within the film that just begging to be taken further. So yeah...movie was great, but the series rocks! ---------- Hammer - DANIELite, JACKette, TEAL'Conian, KAWler, FERling and GM of the Stargate Command RPG "Didn't I order you to get a life?" -- Jack O'Neill, The Other Side ¦ "Greetings from Earth, Doctor Jackson" Louis Ferretti, Children Of The Gods

MythingLink I always liked the film (got all the versions of it - DVD Special Edition, Regular, and Director's Cut). I like Kurt Russell and James Spader and thought they did an excellent job. Me for one, can see the development between KR's O'Neill and RDA's O'Neill. It was a natural progression from what he was in the film to what he became in the series. I like to think that RDA's O'Neill was O'Neill before the horror with the death of his son. And for awhile there, I was having a difficult time telling the difference between Spader's Daniel and MS's Daniel. I think MS did a lot of homework in studying Spader and who he did Daniel and he brought that with him to the series. So I'll always like the movie if only because it did spawn the series, but as a stand alone it's also a great show. Cheers, ---------- MythingLink The Woolfden: http://www.woolfden.net

ChulackCat I didn't care much for the characters in the movie, so I didn't care for the movie, period. All the characters seemed stiff, like cardboard cut-outs. I don't like saying that I didn't like the movie, since I've become ( almost ) obsessive with what it's created.

MythingLink It's similar to what happened with M*A*S*H. Those that watched the series first, didn't like the movie, the way the characters were portrayed, or the actors. I've been lucky and in both cases saw the movie first then started on the series. I can appreciate both for what they are and, in the case of the vast difference in the O'Neill character between movie and series I can see how that could be seen as a growing of the character. Or maybe just a change to the way O'Neill was before the death of Charlie. Cheers, ---------- MythingLink The Woolfden: http://www.woolfden.net

Sean3w haha ChulakCat. I thought the same thing and I'm obsessed with the show too. I made my parents take me home last night from shopping, which they really needed to get done, just to watch Window of Opportuninty last night. I never let anything get planned between 9:00 and 10:00 on Fridays. hehe ---------- Check out SG 2070 at http://www.geocities.com/~casey10060/stargate Next week it'll be http://www.sg2070.com

padders I remember wathching the movie (with my mum ekk :-) ) and loving the idea of it. I think it was one of the first science fiction films i ever really watched and really liked that were not "main stream" like aliens or something like that. So yeah, great film. I remember seeing the trailers for sg-1 on sky one (about a month after we got it!) and thinking, that looks good and wow it was! ---------- Chris Padfield, administrator for TalkStargate.com http://www.talkstargate.com/ - Talk Stargate till your heart's content!

MythingLink Yeah, it was a great film that just begged for something like this. I'm glad that someone with the power to do it, saw that as well and acted on it. Cheers, ---------- MythingLink The Woolfden: http://www.woolfden.net

Sean3w Did you know that the creator of Stargate had planned to come out with more movies, and then when Stargate SG-1 came out, he was mad and then didn't come out with a sequal. ---------- Check out SG 2070 at http://www.geocities.com/~casey10060/stargate Next week it'll be http://www.sg2070.com

padders I heard there was a little bit of "tension" between the makers of the film and of sg-1, that probably explains it. ---------- Chris Padfield, administrator for TalkStargate.com http://www.talkstargate.com/ - Talk Stargate till your heart's content!

| MythingLink Lot's of tension and the reason for some of the 'throw-a-way' lines in the series. Secrets: Jack's comment on there being another O'Neill with only one l and how he doesn't have a sense of humor. Daniel's comment about uploading a 'virus to the mother ship'. Both DD and RE have apparently made disparaging remarks about the series. I say apparently because I haven't actually seen any of their comments.
