Why do Mature Goa'uld have to find a new host?
I relise the Goa'uld parasite entity can not take over the host until it matures, Why does it need to locate a new host when it matures? Why not keep the host it has?

Has STARGATE SG1 fully explained why an adult Goa'uld must find a new host?

Is there a time limit on how long a Goa'uld can posess a human body?

Really, they don't. If they don't get a "new" host then they will just take over the Jaffa that they are already in.
My guess is that it is all about perfection. They try and find the most perfect hosts for adult hosts (see the selection procedures for the women in the first episode).

I think this hints at a problem which has been discussed, the huge amounts of maturing goa'uld but the apparent tiny amount of mature goa'uld. Think of the number of Jaffa compared to Goa'uld that we have seen. (SG-1 is evening up the balance with all the Jaffa they have killed though so that helps!).

On the Tokra Home-world a Jafa female was converting over to a tokra,She nearly died because she waited too long to transfer her parasite over to a new host.
Aparently when The larva mature they must find a new host or die.

Um.. i am sure that somewhere along the line Teal'c said that if he did not take the Goa'uld that is inside him out, that when it matured he would become a Goa'uld and something like how he would not let this happen.

Here's a guess and this does contain spoilers for the fouth season.
In 1969 Teal'c does say that his larvae would take him over when it matures. He doesn't indicate what will happen to the larvae if it doesn't, nor does he mention what will happen to him - but I think we all know by now that he would die because he would have no immune system.

In the episode with Klorel/Ska'ra and Klorel is removed, it is put in a container and if I remember right, it was said that the larvae would die unless a host were found for it. The answer to that was that the Goa'uld need simply get a new host for it. No time limit was set.

Spoilers for Crossroads and here is where my guess comes from. When what's her name falls ill because she has waited too long, there isn't any mention of what would happen to the larvae if a new host were not found immediately, just that she was endangering her own life by delaying it. My guess is that when the goa'uld larvae matures, it stops acting as the immune system for the Jaffa. Possibly when it matures, it can no longer do this and she was in danger of dying until a new larvae was found to take over this function.

Cheers,

Maybe they just didn't say what would happen to the Goa'uld 'cause nobody cares about a snake anyway...

You are definitely paying attention.

OK people listen up, When a larva becomes an adult it loses it's ability to act an Amman system, Therefore the host becomes violently ill if the adult parasite is not transferred to another host.

The adult parasite must take over the body or leave it when it becomes an adult.

Once the adult parasite takes over the brain functions of it's host a sarcoficus must be used to maintain the hosts ammune system.

Sorry Thor, but your comment about the sarc taking over the immune system can't be correct. We know that the larvae can heal the body of certain things. Jacob's cancer and arthritis were healed; in Show & Tell, little Charlie was going to be healed of all of his difficulties by being made a host to a Tok'ra; and in Need when Carter is accessing Jolinar's memories she states that the Tok'ra do not use the sarc because of the changes in personality it creates.
Cheers,

Ill buy that, Why do you think System Lords use the Sarcof?
The adult Larva may need help from the sarcof to maintain a human body.
But the fact remains the sarcof must be important to the Goa'uld or they would not spend so much time in it?

It may be that the Tokra do not use a Sarcof, But maybe they found drugs or some other sytem that has not been explained yet?

I would imagine they use it because they can. It's easy and convenient. Also because even though the larvae can heal most things that go wrong with the host, they might not be able to heal themselves needing the sarc to do that. Or on occassion when the host has sustained too much damage for the larvae to heal.
It might also have to do with the sarc being able to keep a humanoid body alive 600 years whereas with just the larvae, it can only work for possibly a couple of hundred or so. Just guessing here.

Cheers,

On the subject of chosing a host I think when they chose a host they are thinking in the same terms as when some people buy a car. ie a sports car being better than a family van. They might chose the most attractive and physically fit of hosts as much as for vanity as anything.....why buy a run down house when you can get a mansion. The infant gou'ald either doesnt have a choice of using a particular jaffe host or hasnt developed the refined tastes in bodies yet. As far as how a snake develops an idea of what is beauty in a human ....... "something of the host must remain".
