Question Lord Of The Rings Recast

Just because I'm curious and there seems to be some dissatisfaction regarding the casting of some characters in Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings Movies, I thought I ask and see what happens.

If you could recast all the characters in the three movie, who would you have replaced and with whom?

I would have liked to see Peter Jackson's original choice for Elrond, Sam Neill, play the role.

Re: Lord Of The Rings Recast

One possibility: as Gandalf, Patrick Stewart

And, perhaps at an earlier period, Brian Blessed as Gimli

I'd like to know who they had originally playing Aragorn, they never say who it was, only that he was too young.
Justin Whalin as Legolas maybe?! Only cos he's better looking than Orli!

Re: Lord Of The Rings Recast

Peter Townsend was originally cast as Aragorn.

Ummm .... Patrick Stewart would have been interesting as Gandalf.

I wouldn't recast anything. I thought the casting was excellent. Pure genius. They all did excellent jobs and were (generally) unknowns at the time.

Daniel Day Lewis as Aragorn perhaps.

Jeremy Irons might have made a good Saruman. Has those same dark, brooding eyes.

If he'd have done that I surely would have assumed the it was that Agent Smith from the Matrix.

But without the dark glasses and the funny black suit.

For me Sam Neill will always be Merlin somehow which was why I was thinking he'd have made a good Elrond.

I wouldn't change anyone of the casting; PJ and crew did a good job.

Why would you want to change who played Aragorn? Viggo Mortensen, to me, is Aragorn. He took the character very seriously, and really let himself get absorbed into the role.

Aye they did and I love those movies and I think I watch them once every month at least. This is just an exercise in curiousity. I wanted to see what everyone had to say and who they might like to see in a particular role. We all of us loved the books and had thought about movies long before Jackson made his. So, we all probably had a whole cast or several changes of them.

It's got nothing to do with wishing to in any shape, form or manner criticise the choices made in the movie.

I think the casting was excellent too, though I would have preferred a different actor for Aragorn. I thought he should have been older and rougher looking but still maintaining a strong charisma and certain charm. If he could master a good English accent, Michael Ironside would have been perfect.

Daniel Day Lewis was suposidly the first person they asked but he turned down the offer to do Gangs of Newyork instead.

One person I really would have liked to see involved was Max Von Sydow, he's have made a perfect Saruman or Denethor if you ask me.
