Hugh Jackman as Roland?

Hi All

How are you ALL doing?

I was discussing this with a good friend of mines, if the powers that be ever made a movie based on The Dark Tower series, do you think Hugh Jackman would be excellent for the role?

Before I continue I know I am biased (I love him to bits) but seriously, think about it...

Re: Hugh Jackman as Roland?

I'm not really sure, if Clint Eastwood was younger he'd have made an excellent Roland

I almost suspect that Stephen King had seen several of the Spagetti western before he started the series. Eastwood was the first name to pop into my head, too. Now-a -days I think the best candidate would probably be Johnny Depp. He seems to be able to play anything from a pirate to a cactus. Hugh JAckman might be next up but I think he's just a little too clean.

Re: Hugh Jackman as Roland?

Not Jackman in my book because The Gunslinger as I see him is a weathered man in his middle-years (40's or so). A lean Russell Crowe perhaps, or a Daniel Day Lewis...actually I'd consider DDL for just about any good role

I think Hugh Jackman will do a good Roland. Clint Eastwood I totally see him as a Roland, shame he's too old for the role.

Me think that sadly the would feel the need to edit it with a sledge hammer before they made it and then still make it an 18 only to be shown after midnight

Re: Hugh Jackman as Roland?

As much as I like Jackman I'd not not put him up at the top of the list. When I first read the books I'll admit it was Eastwood that came to mind but he'd need to be a lot younger.

Johnny Depp might wing it since he seems to be able to morph into almost anything but then again he's also too young, the same problem I have with Jackman, although Jackman does look more 'weathered' than Depp.

Daniel Day Lewis would definitely be able to do it. He's another one of those actors who seems to be able to morph to fit any role. However, he seems to have dropped out of acting pretty much and I don't know about the chances of getting him to do this. I'll admit a definite bias in this direction.

No way. This guy is way to young and pretty. I'm thinking Kurt Russell.
