Re: Hugh Jackman as Roland? I see Hugh Jackman playing Eddie Dean over Roland. SK all but said Roland was based on Clint Eastwood. The illustrator for one of the books (I think 2 or 3) seemed to be under that impression, as well.

Re: Hugh Jackman as Roland? I think, from what King has written that Roland doesn't really look like Eastwood except his eyes. To quote from Waste Lands: "Jake knew he should get moving-three o'clock was almost here-but he paused a moment anyway , staring at the poster behind the dirty , cracked glass. Eastwood was wearing a Mexican serape. A cigar was clamped in his teeth. He had thrown one side of the serape back over his shoulder to free his gun. His were pale, faded blue. Bombardier's eyes. Its not him,Jake thought, but its almost him. Its the eyes, mostly...the eyes are almost the same." Then there was that bit in Song of Susanah about how Roland looked a little like King himself...as if he could be King's father. So...based on that I came up with a formula. He's got to have the gray eyes, he needs to be older (late 40s or mid 50s), and he needs to sound a little like Eastwood and look at least a bit like King. Therefore based on his voice, looks, demeanor, and in so small part his role in the movie, Tombstone I nominate...Kurt Russell. So there. (yes...I have considered the possibility that I've put way too much thought into this)

Re: Hugh Jackman as Roland? Actually, he does have a kind of Rolandish face...and he's good looking ![]() But yes, I agree that he needs to be more rough looking and older. So perhaps he would make a better Eddie. I completelyunderstood the bit about Roland looking like SK...I know that almost all my protagonists in my (attempted!) stories definitely do bare a resemblence to me. It's like putting yourself into the story, especially as the really cool ones, it's like you're creating the person you want to be.

Re: Hugh Jackman as Roland? I think Hugh Jackman would make a pretty good Roland, with all the right gear of course, the hat, boots, a bit of stuble. In my head I hear Roland with a gruff smokey voice which suits Jackman down to the ground. I saw a site once that said Guy Pierce could pull it off, but I'm not so sure. I think Jason Lee from Mallrats or Edward Norton from Fightclub would make a pretty good Eddie Dean though, but that's just my opinion. Halle Berry could play Susannah maybe? That kid from Signs as Jake? Oy would have to be achieved via CGI but that would be alright. I wish I could find that site, it had images and everything. Lance Henrickson as Walter. The voice of Dennis Hopper for Blaine the Mono. I personally believe all 7 books, with side stories and everything, could be achieved through a mini series. Stephen King would have to step in and tweak a few things but it is totally possible. I resent anybody who says otherwise.

Re: Hugh Jackman as Roland? Nah, not Halle Berry...no offence to her, but Susannah is more womanly, you know, full figured and with powerful arms from being in her wheelchair and what have you. And she's a very independent woman, she'd have to have a very strong personality. I suppose Oy would have to be done by CGI, but I really wished he didn't, because CGI annoys me. But then I don't really want to see a real dog with a spring attached to it's tail being used, so I guess it's the only alternative!

Re: Hugh Jackman as Roland? I think Angela Basset who played Tina Turner would make a great Susannah and Vigo Mortensen, him who played Aragorn in Lord Of the Rings would be great as Roland. Eddie Dean - Hugh Jackman. Dunno bout the others. Definitely Denis Hopper for Blaine!

Re: Hugh Jackman as Roland? Ive got to agree clint eastwood was my vision of roland. I see roland as rather old and withered, he's not in the greatest of shape anyway. He definitely needs the look of a very strongminded person who also looks like hes in a completely different world. He also needs to be seen as secretly powerful, a strong figure, well respected. Eastwood would have fitted that perfectly even a decade ago. Eastwood is a bad choice as a seven part movie (perfectly plausible when considering Harry Potter) would take about seven years and is getting someone too old in a bit risky and losing Clint as the main role would be devastating. There isnt many around presently who could do what Eastwood can. If there ever is a dark tower movie which is looking rather suspicious especially with the latest editions book cover designs (looking very film friendly, like that of LOTR) dont be surprised to see Tim Burton as director with King besides. Burton was found by King 20 years ago and they have yet to codirect anything yet. If Tim Burton becomes director expect to see Johnny Depp in there somewhere...possibly Eddie (if he learnt to become less extravagant). Will be difficult to find a Susannah too. If the movie ever does arise it would have to be high budget (but with a huge fan base???) and expect a lot of computer imagery, the imagery that King sees.

Re: Hugh Jackman as Roland? The Best I've heard so far has benn Russell Crowe. But maybe you could play Viggo Mortensen. I know he's done the Lord of The Rings trilogy and that may overshadow this but he's still be one of the best options I think.
