Re: Trying to pick a POD Publisher...HELP!

Hi Sophia, sounds like you're the next Jason Paolini. Keep us posted on how things work out with your book. I'll be looking for it.

Re: Trying to pick a POD Publisher...HELP!

The edit is done, the cover is done, the ARC's (advanced reader copies) are being sent out. So far everything's going pretty well, except that my book's estimated price is fourteen dollars. Their books are nine and ten dollars and a lot more pages.

The real test is who's willing to review their books (and of course how much it sells) so we'll see.

Re: Trying to pick a POD Publisher...HELP!

Advanced Readers Copies have been sent to the following:

The New York Times Book Review
Kirkus Reviews
Foreword Magazine
The Book Report
Midwest Book Reviews
Publisher's Weekly
The Library Journal
SF Reader
Poddy Mouth
SF Site
IBList.com
ReviewCentre.com

According to the company owner, there are several websites (including Fantasy Book Spot) and other magazines that they plan to send copies to. No reviews yet.

By the way, Darrell (if you still view this board) did you send the manuscript? How did it go?

Warnings and Cautions for Writers--Print on Demand

The information there has been carefully researched.
Just ran into this post while researching POD stuff. Sorry, I can't agree with idea that this is a careful or even particularly responsible summation.

You read through it and quickly realize they don't really know what POD is. They are confusing a printing technology with business plans and make an equation of POD with vanity and scam publishing that is by no means valid.

Their "issues to consider" section here is a joke. They continually talk about contracts and business practices as being a function of POD.

I was pretty shocked that the sfwa would put together such a shoddy, prejudicial, and ignorant document, frankly. If anybody here is in a position to do so, they should contact them and ask them to consider rewriting or replacing this thing. What they have here is disinformation that does more harm than good.

Don't mean to be a kill joy, but did you double check the places that you sent the advanced copies to? As I know that Pod-dy Mouth has been closed since March 2007 and they did not review SF and F anyway...
