Science Consultant for SF???

Hey,

Random thought I had today.

Does anyone know if there is much of a need for science consultants in the SF field? I am guessing Films and tv mostly, but books too.

I've been into SF for a long time , but professionaly I'm educated up to PhD level in physics with an emphasis on space technology and theoretical physics.

I'm was just daydreaming today and trying to think of ways I can combine my interests.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them!

Seems like if you take a couple of advanced writing classes, you could consult for yourself. Asimov is the one of the top of my head who had a strong background to the point that he wrote books on science. I suspect many good writers have the backgroud themselves.

Re: Science Consultant for SF???

All you need to do is to look at the credits on any movie looking to be realistic and you'll find there is probably some kind of consultant/expert there to give advice and opinion. I don't see why the same can't apply to SF. Asimov was a technical advisor on the first Star Trek movie (amongst other things).

The problem is finding out what movie needs such a person. I'd think about getting an agent to do that work for you
