| How the Daleks got their name It will soon be 8th August 1930 – the birth date of Terry Nation. Terry is the TV scriptwriter who created the Daleks for the Dr Who series. In 1963 it was Terry who introduced the diabolical foes of Dr Who, with the death-ray appendages probing the air as they cried ‘We will exterminate’. His creative idea was named from the spine of an encyclopedia on his shelf, DAL-EK. As I am not a keen fan of Dr Who, this was an interesting piece of information, although I am sure the real fans will have known about it for a long time. |

| Re: How the Daleks got their name hi, sorry to have to counter that, but Nation later said he made that up just to give those who asked him about it some kind of answer. there was no encyclopedia, at that time anyway, that covered those letters in one volume. Nation just made it up while writing, he said its just something he came up with one day no real secret reason or anything. |
