Just a word of warning - back up all of your data regularly!
I've just suffered a fatal hard drive corruption, the repair shop have just phoned to tell me that all my data is unrecoverable.
Even more unfortunately, the last time I backed up my novel was in July, so I've lost about 3 months work. I haven't done that much it that time, and a lot of what I have done I've printed off, so it's not the end of the world as far as the novel is concerned.
However, there was tons of stuff on the hard drive that wasn't backed up at all, writing exercises, research notes, stuff like that. Plus all my notes and outlines for my next two books, and loads of random ideas for even more. All gone, none of it backed up. My own silly fault, I know.
The silly thing is, I was planning to upgrade my computer after Christmas. If only it could have held on another two months or so! It just crashed without warning, I've had it for years and I've never had a single thing go wrong with it, it was working fine on Saturday, then on Sunday - nothing.
So heed my warning - Back up everything, NOW! And wish me luck in buying a new 'pute!
