| The Shield and Sword of Rome The Shield and Sword of Rome were Fabius and Marcellus. I was wondering wether anyone knew why Fabius (The Shield) became famous. As i understand it all he actually did was avoid battle with Hannibal. He apparently just 'shadowed' Hannibal but never drew him into a battle and as such never won more than skirmishes. To me this just seems abit of a...failure for the military dictator... Anybody know why he was a famous general? |
