Re: Dan Radcliff to star in Equus Interesting choice - I remember a film version with Jenny Agutter and Richard Burton, I believe. Sounds like someone wants to cast off his teen hero image. ![]()

Re: Dan Radcliff to star in Equus I saw the movie with Peter Firth and Richard Burton and it does sound as if Radcliffe want's to shed the Harry Potter image ... and he's doing it with a vengeance. Will be interesting to see how the play is received. ![]()

Re: Dan Radcliff to star in Equus I, also, remember quite vividly the earlier film version... made quite an impression. Yes, it'll be very interesting to see how it's received... I hope they do it justice....

Re: Dan Radcliff to star in Equus Yes...fantastic....Harry Potter does Dobbin....excellent....just the image a role model needs to project. Teenagers everywhere, go out and sexually interfere with livestock! Marvellous.

Re: Dan Radcliff to star in Equus You know, the thing that I recall striking me when I saw the original film version of this was the eerie tone to the whole, and the concentration on mythic overtones to the story... the fact that the audience is led slowly to the idea that the ghostly figure of Equus hovering over the whole, is more than simply a "brain-fungus" of the disturbed young man, but perhaps a genuine presence gradually emerging into our reality....

Re: Dan Radcliff to star in Equus jenny Agutter did seem to get naked an awful lot didn't she? It struck me as someone wanting to prove he's an actor -although perhaps that's unfair. He'd also be on a list of people I have no desire to see naked.

Re: Dan Radcliff to star in Equus I saw Equus first on the stage, and the mythic and mystic overtones were quite pronounced, creepy and convincing. Brilliant direction made an excellent use of a very small space. To me, it doesn't translate well into a movie. It's not the same without metal-and-rawhide horse-gods.

I don't know if this play will change that, though I hope he does it justice. It may take years of acting in other roles for people to see him as an adult and not as Harry Potter. | |

Re: Dan Radcliff to star in Equus Yes, I've already seen people being scandalized by this, claiming he's no longer a role model, and all that tripe. I'm sorry, folks, but this is a lot like the actress who plays the "home-wrecker" type on soaps being assaulted on the street for tearing apart all those happy couples. It's a role, people, not the real person! He's an actor (good or bad, only time will tell), and if he wants to have a chance at a career acting rather than -- as with so many child and juvenile actors -- reprising a role he played when he was a child, only this time for chuckles, then something like Equus is a damned good choice. It's a challenging role, a meaty role, and one that is guaranteed to stretch someone's range considerably. Frankly, my view is to hell with those who'd hamstring anyone who wants to improve themselves in their craft; they haven't a clue to what it's all about.
