I read this many years ago but it reminded me strongly of Lovecraft's The Colour out of Space. Similar idea. Something had come from outer space and there was a crater and I believe a tree. And people saw strange colours. An artist arrives having I think heard of another who's put his eyes out trying to paint these colours. He goes to the place and something from the crater gets into him. He starts seeing the strange colours and it's totally transformed the tree. But he can't paint it no matter how hard he tries and finally he too puts out his eyes. I think he sees more than just colours. He sees faces as well. Many, many faces in the fabric of the tree.

Re: Recognise this tale? sorry to use your topic but i wondered if anyone recognised a book that i'd read a few years ago 2 (well around 10 years ago to be exact!) it was a fantasy, i know there were some crystals in them that people were taking as recreational drugs and some trolls towards the end and it ends with 2 people having to go into a maze yeah i know its a bit vague but i can't remeber what its called and i kinda started it in the middle and don't know how it end so would like to read it at some point if i ever find out what its called

Re: Recognise this tale? You may have to make your peace with the full-stop, Joel. Commas seem to be dying out, but the period looks like it could be with us for a while longer. And if you feel the urge to edit, there's always the Critiques section.
